lifestyle, 17 best fuzzy and comfy lounge socks for the coziest night ever

Once the weather gets colder, there’s one crucial essential you cannot forget: lounge socks. Whether your feet get cold easily or you’re a true fuzzy sock enthusiast, we can all agree that the perfect pair of warm, cozy indoor socks is an essential for late night movie marathons on the couch or sitting by the fireplace. Plus, they’re always a safe choice for a stocking stuffer or gift during the holiday season — after all, who doesn’t love comfy socks? But shopping for that perfect pair may feel a little overwhelming, especially with so many options available online that all look the same. That’s where we come in.

The Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab regularly evaluates all kinds of socks, from warm socks for the cold outdoors and no-show socks that’ll actually stay in place to hiking socks you can depend on and compression socks you’ll never travel without. This year alone, our analysts tested over 90 different pairs in the Lab for aspects like construction, shrinkage, washability and abrasion resistance. Plus, we worked with consumer testers to collect feedback on real-life performance including overall comfort, fit, cushioning, appearance and whether or not users maintained a comfortable temperature when wearing them to find the best socks available. The picks ahead are top performers in our recent tests and personal favorites from GH analysts and editors.

What to look for when shopping for sleeper sofas

The Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Labs tests all types of socks, from everyday no-show socks and knee-high compression socks to moisture-wicking running socks. In the last year, we evaluated over 90 styles, both in rigorous Lab tests and with hundreds of consumer testers across the country, and analyzed over 18,000 data points to find the best socks available.

In the Lab, our fiber scientists and materials engineers tested dimensional stability, laundering, abrasion resistance and more for each using industry standards and specialized equipment in addition to assessing each sock’s construction and additional features. Outside of Lab evaluations, we worked with a diverse group of consumer testers to provide feedback on various attributes, including fit, comfort and cushioning. Our testers also provided additional feedback on how the socks performed over long periods of time, including if they kept their feet at a comfortable temperature or stayed in place.

What to look for when shopping for sleeper sofas

When you’re shopping for fuzzy or lounge socks, there are still a few factors you should consider before purchasing a new pair.

✔️ Materials: While most socks are made of cotton or polyester with some added spandex, many options are blended with other fibers. Here are some of the materials you’ll often encounter:

  • Cotton is known for its soft, breathable feel and natural quality.
  • Microfiber polyester is often used for an even softer, almost buttery feel, at the expense of breathability.
  • Wool has great natural temperature regulation and moisture wicking abilities. Merino wool and cashmere are special varieties of wool known for their luxurious natural softness.
  • Spandex is used for added stretch so the sock fits on your foot but won’t get stretched out.
  • Synthetic fibers like polyester and nylon also help add some durability and structure to the sock.
  • Manufactured cellulosic fibers like rayon, lyocell or modal feel silky soft and are often blended with other fibers for their trademark silky feel.

✔️ Additional Features: Not all fuzzy socks are made equal. Here are a few differentiating factors to consider:

  • Stay-in-place grips: If you want to wear your socks directly on the carpet or floor, look for socks that have grippers on the bottom for some traction so you don’t slip on the floor. If you’d prefer to pair your socks with slippers or slides, opt for styles without grips on the bottom.
  • Sizing: If you have larger or smaller feet, socks with multiple sizes can be a game changer, especially if one-size-fits-all socks never fit.
  • Type of fuzziness: Some fuzzy socks are napped or brushed for a fleece or flannel-like fuzziness while others are lined with sherpa or pile, similar to a robe or towel. If you’re particular about the texture, make sure to pay attention to the product description or any available photos.
