9 unique tourist attractions you should visit in WA
Karijini National Park
Located in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, Karijini National Park gets you up close and personal with several spectacular gorges. Adventure through the park on one of the many hikes and trails to suit all ability levels. Due to the extreme heat in the summer, it is best to visit during the cooler months, as you may not be able to take advantage of everything the park has to offer when it is scorching outside. Stop in at Tom Price Tourist Park which is located just a short drive away and offers self-contained units and caravan sites for visitors.
Kalbarri pelican feeding
On the spectacular shores of Kalbarri, you’ll find a small fish shack on the beach. However, all is not what it seems. You won’t be buying any fish for yourself, but rather for the many pelicans that call the area home. You and your family will love watching these majestic birds gobble up the fish right out of your hands. The pelican feeding is hosted by volunteers. At the end of the day, kick back and relax at Kalbarri Red Bluff Tourist Park.
Little Bay fishing
While it is true that you can go beach fishing almost anywhere near an ocean, lake or river, Little Bay adds a bit more to the experience. The bay is only accessible by four-wheel drive, so depending on your timing, it is quite likely that you might have the entire beach to yourself. Pack a picnic lunch and spend the day at the beach with your family, but don’t forget to put on plenty of sunscreen and bring plenty of water. When you’ve had enough sun for one day, you can unwind in the shade at Horrocks Beach Caravan Park.
Geraldton wildflowers
WA is home to a whopping 12,000 species of native wildflowers, and as many as 60 per cent of them are found nowhere else on the planet. This makes the area the perfect destination for nature lovers and flower enthusiasts. There are countless hiking trails throughout the area, so you’ll have your pick of areas to explore. Visit between September and November to have the greatest chance of viewing a spectacular bloom. After wildflower spotting, kick your feet up at Geraldton Belair Gardens Caravan Park.
Nambung National Park pinnacles
Nambung National Park offers a unique sightseeing experience, and no visit to the state would be complete without stopping by for a while. There are plenty of natural wonders to see in the park, but none are quite as impressive as the Pinnacles Desert. Thousands of massive limestone formations are sprinkled throughout the area, and they make for some amazing photo opportunities. Take your time to see all of the sights and spend a few nights at Jurien Bay Tourist Park, located just north of Nambung.
Margaret River Cheers Tours
The Margaret River region is known for its delicious wineries and breweries, and you’ll have the chance to sample as many of them as you like on your holiday in the area. However, there is more to the region than just wine; you’ll also find other gourmet food, including venison, cheeses, chocolate, beer and more. Cheers Tours help you take advantage of all of these and more, and you can even go behind the scenes to see how everything is made, all without having to worry about driving yourself. At the end of the day, sleep it off at the comfortable Margaret River Tourist Park.
Keenan’s Number 1 Mill
If you like a little history with your hike, you’ll love the Number 1 Mill in Keenan State Forest. This unusual brick structure sits nestled out in the bush and was the first pine sawmill in the area, built back in 1961. Though it ceased operation in 1967, tourists to the region still flock to it each year. It is an easy hike, so feel free to bring the whole family along. There are plenty of other hikes in the park as well, so you can really make a day of it. Get some well-earned rest at the end of the day at Riverview Tourist Park, conveniently located in nearby Margaret River.
The giant tingle tree
In another chance to explore the great outdoors, stop by the Giant Tingle Tree just outside Walpole. This impressive monolith is a fire-hollowed tingle tree, the eucalypt variety with the largest known girth. You’ll enjoy a relatively easy hike through the spectacular tingle and karri forest before having a chance to walk around the Queen of Trees. Stop and have a picnic as you complete the loop, soaking in the natural beauty of the forest. If you are travelling with a caravan, store it at the Walpole Rest Point Caravan Park.
Esperance eco-discovery tours
If you are looking for a bit of adventure, Esperance Bay is the spot for you. Guided Esperance tours of the region will take you through wild bushland, secluded beaches and breathtaking cliff vistas. You have the chance to see places and things that most travellers never get close to, letting you see what the real Western Australian Outback is all about. At the end of your tour, head back to Esperance Bay Holiday Park to spend a few nights.
