Casual upscale chain Sol Mexican Cocina is opening its first East Coast expansion in early 2023, a huge 5,800-square-foot restaurant in Boston’s Back Bay with 200 seats inside and a 30-seat patio for the warmer months.

The restaurant will join local chain Jaho Coffee & Tea at 116 Huntington Ave., an office building across from the Prudential Center. This will be Sol’s seventh location, following eye-catching spots in Playa Vista, Newport Beach, and Irvine, California; Scottsdale, Arizona; Denver; and Las Vegas, slated to open this November.

Sol, owned by California-based Xperience Restaurant Group, plans to stick to its existing menu of Baja-inspired coastal fare, including at least 24 house-made salsas, tacos filled with everything from deep-fried duck leg to carne asada to vegan roasted butternut squash or barbecue seitan, and plenty of seafood like ceviche and a salad of chipotle shrimp and grilled corn.

On the drinks side, Sol serves dozens of mezcals, tequilas, and cocktails, including margaritas made tableside, as well as wines and beers. Expect a variety of options at lunch, dinner, weekend brunch, and Taco Tuesday, as well as some live music.
