Another ‘Dai, Another Fire: 44,000 Hyundai Santa Fe Sports Recalled for Engine Fire Risk

In February, affiliated South Korean automakers Hyundai and Kia recalled more than 484,000 vehicles for the risk of an engine compartment fire. Certain model-year 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport SUVs were omitted from that recall but are now added to the pile in Hyundai’s latest safety guidance.

The original recall is being expanded to include approximately 44,400 2018 Santa Fe Sport SUVs. The issue is with the antilock brake system model, which could malfunction and cause an electrical short. The concern is the possibility of an engine compartment fire while the SUV is parked or driving, increasing the risk of injury.

Owners of these vehicles are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will replace the ABS multifuse for free. Hyundai will begin notifying owners Dec. 26; in the meantime, those with further questions can call Hyundai at 855-371-9460 (Hyundai’s number for this recall is 237) or visit NHTSA’s website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
