The BMW Group is on track to exceed its initial target to reduce its fleet-wide CO2 emissions in Europe by more than twice, boosted by strong response to its battery EV models, said Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management.

The group had initially targeted a 4.9 percent year-on-year reduction in CO2 emissions, but is now on track to deliver between 5 to 10 percent.

As of September 2022, the BMW Group has delivered over 128,000 battery EVs, up 114.8 percent from last year.

The company didn’t provide a breakdown of sales of its EV models, but the BMW Group currently has 5 battery EV models on the market – , , , , and the (EV version of the 3 Series, not related to carbon fibre chassis i3 hatchback).

New i3 is a China-only model

Later this month, the and will reach showrooms in Europe and North America, before reaching BMW outlets in other parts of the world.

Zipse also confirmed that a new BMW i5 will be announced next year. The model has yet to make its global debut but its name indicates that it will be an EV variant of the next generation 2023 BMW 5 Series.

Like the i4 and 4 Series Gran Coupe, the 5 Series will debut first as an EV bearing the new i5 nameplate.

The Rolls-Royce Spectre, the first EV to wear the Spirit of Ecstasy ornament, will also go on sale next year.
