C8 Corvette Street Race Leads To Spectacular Crash In Vegas

Judging by this wild scene, things could have ended much worse.

Predictable Ending

These days, we’re seeing more and more automotive crashes occur as things like speeding, street racing, and illicit drug and alcohol use run rampant. Unfortunately, the Corvette is usually at the center of a lot of these accidents, and that was also the case recently when the owner of this C8 engaged in a bit of ultra-dangerous street racing in Las Vegas with predictable results, according to Fox 5 News.

Major Collision

Police say that the C8 was racing a Toyota Supra, with speeds exceeding 100 miles-per-hour. Both cars ran a red light at the corner of South Fort Apache Road and West Flamingo Road, at which point the cars collided with a Chevy Suburban that was attempting to turn at the intersection. The resulting scene, as one might imagine, was quite the sight to behold.

Big Boom

“It was just like an astronomical boom like a bomb went off and that is when all the power got cut, and then we only saw smoke outside of our window and what I pieced together really quickly was like a bomb went off,” said Megan Streater, who is the manager of a nearby convenience store. “It didn’t sound like screeching or a collision, like classic car accident sounds. It was just a huge boom.”

Significant Damage

The aftermath of the collision certainly looks like a bomb went off, as a total of seven vehicles were damaged, power was knocked out in the surrounding area, and the cars also caused a considerable amount of damage to a bus stop, fire hydrant, and both light and power poles.

Debris Everywhere

“There was vehicle debris for approximately a quarter mile down the roadway, white smoke coming from a transformer, three vehicles with major damage, airbags deployed, and multiple other vehicles with minor to moderate damage,’ an LVMPD officer explained to the news.

Small Miracle

Amazingly, only one person was hurt as a result of this massive crash, which is truly a miracle. That person was taken to the hospital, but it seems as if they didn’t suffer any life-threatening injuries as a result of this horrific incident.

Lesson Learned

As for the 25-year-old driver of the C8 Corvette, well, he’s lucky to be alive but is now facing charges of reckless driving, participating in a speed contest, and disregard for the safety of a person and property, not to mention the fact that his car is basically a total loss, proving once again that street racing just isn’t worth the risk.
