Canadian Cadillac Lyriq buyers get free EV home charger install
- Cadillac adds incentives for charging station installation to its first battery-powered model
- The automaker is offering its own branded Ultium PowerUp home charging stations
- If you already have a charger, the offer changes to $750 worth of public charging
As Cadillac moves forward on electrification with the introduction of its new battery-powered 2023 Lyriq, the automaker has announced it will cover the installation cost of a home charger, or provide FLO public charging credits, for Canadians who lease or purchase one.
Now, that’s for the installation of the charger, not the unit itself, and the offer includes you buying a 11.5-kW Ultium PowerUp unit — a GM-branded Level 2 charger that’s part of the automaker’s plans to establish a network of public and private charging stations, including 40,000 of them at its U.S. dealers and, in areas with few public charging options, in the areas around them.
But when you do buy the charger, Cadillac will hook you up with Qmerit, a nationwide network that will work with you to assess your requirements, find a qualified installer in your area, and help coordinate getting the charger installed and wired at your home.
The Lyriq will come with a portable charger that can operate on regular 120-volt household current or from a 240-volt outlet, but the charging station is more convenient and, compared to 120-volt, a heck of a lot faster. The automaker estimates that it’ll take three days to charge the Lyriq’s battery from a 120-volt outlet, while it’s overnight on the Level 2 charger.
If you already have a home charger or don’t require one, the offer switches to $750 in FLO public charging credits. The network across North America includes DC fast-chargers, and GM said the Lyriq has fast-charging capability up to 190 kW, enabling up to 122 kilometres of range in about 10 minutes of charging. The Lyriq includes a mobile app, myCadillac, with tools to monitor charge status or plan a route with charging stations.
The installation or FLO credit program applies to Canadian residents who purchase or lease a 2023 Lyriq and take delivery by December 31, 2022 from a dealer.
