Crockpot Apple Cider

The first week of Crocktober is over and we are starting the second week with a fall favorite, apple cider! Did you know you can make crockpot apple cider and it tastes delicious? You can and it does. Plus when you make it yourself you can customize it to be as sweet as you would like, which makes it the perfect fall drink.

You will need the following to make a batch of crockpot apple cider –

8-10  Apples, assorted flavors

1 Orange

3 Cinnamon Sticks

1 whole Nutmeg

2 tsp Whole Cloves

10-16 C Water

1/2 – 1 C Brown Sugar

I like to use an assortment of apples so I can mix the sweet with tart for the perfect flavor combination.

First, wash all your apples and orange. Then slice them into fourths.

In your crockpot, you’ll want a large crockpot, place the cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, and cloves.

Layer the apples and orange slices in the crockpot too.

Slowly pour the water into the crockpot until it’s about 1/2 inch from the top of the crockpot.

Place the lid on and cook on low for 6-7 hours or high for 2-3 hours.

When the cooking time is up, take a potato masher and mash the apples and orange slices. If you do not have a masher you can use a fork and mash each apple and orange slice.

Cover and cook for another hour.

This next step can be messy and takes time.

Strain the apple cider and get all the apple and orange bits and all the spices out.  You may need to do this twice. I did.

Pour your cider into a pitcher and add in the brown sugar to taste.

Enjoy! This tastes great hot or cold.

If you do store it in the fridge for later be sure to mix it up before you drink it.
