Located in Naica, Mexico, the Cueva de los Cristales (Cave of Crystals) carries some of the world's largest known crystals.
Within the dark, remote intimacy of Naica’s cave, watch dozens of purple and white crystals push out from the top and bottom like shards of glass. Located in Naica, Mexico, the Cueva de los Cristales (Crystal Cave) carries some of the world’s largest known crystals. Its very largest is 12m long, has a diameter of 4m and weighs 55 tons. How on earth did the crystals reach such massive proportions you ask? The cave has a rare but stable natural environment, allowing temperatures to rise up to 58°C with 90-99% humidity. It is also filled with mineral-rich water that stimulates the crystals’ growth.
According to García-Ruiz, “There is no other place on the planet where the mineral world reveals itself in such beauty.”.
