Expert Tips, Ingredient List and Suggestions for Recipe Success

You will find a complete list of all of the ingredients needed in the recipe card below, however, here are a few key tips and suggestions.

  • Mayonnaise – you can use regular or lite. It’s totally up to you.
  • Horseradish – if your family isn’t a big fan, you can omit.
  • Chicken broth – I would highly suggest using this over water, however, water is fine.
  • Shredded chicken – you can do this using two forks or you can also put this into a large mixing bowl and use your stand mixer to shred the chicken. I prefer using this method.

What Sides Go With This?

The great thing about chicken is that it’s such a versatile protein. However, I think the best sides to serve with Alabama White Sauce Pulled Chicken Sliders are recipes such as Country Macaroni Salad, Bacon Ranch Pasta Salad, and of course, you can never go wrong with more BBQ such as these Oven Baked BBQ Chicken Legs.

Cooking Methods

The great thing about cooking the chicken for this recipe is that there are a variety of ways that you can do it!

Instant Pot

We have included the instructions for making this in the Instant Pot in the recipe card below. If you’ve never made chicken in your IP below, you don’t know what you are missing. The chicken always turns out moist, juicy, and simply perfect!

Slow Cooker

You can also prepare the chicken for this recipe in a slow cooker. However, there will be a little bit of a different process. I have included the steps for this in the recipe card below as well.

Quick Method

If you are short on time, just pick up a rotisserie chicken, your favorite canned chicken, or your favorite sliced chicken breast that is already cooked and use that in place of the uncooked chicken. That way you already have the chicken ready to go! Just fix the sauce and dinner is served!

On the Grill

Season the chicken breasts with the seasoning and place on a heated grill. Grill over medium heat to 165 or until the juices run clear. Place the chicken breasts on a serving plate and slice the chicken at an angle and top with the sauce or serve it on the slide.

Cast Iron Skillet

Follow the same method above as the grill, except heat your cast iron skillet for about four minutes on medium, then add in your favorite olive oil (about 1 tbsp) then add in your chicken breast.

Let the chicken cook until it’s done. Approximately 7 minutes or so on each side or until it’s at an internal temp of 165. Place the chicken breast on a service plate, slice at an angle and serve along with the sauce.

What Does It Taste Like?

Think of this as a ranch sauce that has a mayo base that is also tangy. I know that sounds odd. But seriously, this stuff is delicious.

How Long Does It Last?

You can store this in your fridge in an airtight container for up to 4 days.

Can It Be Frozen?

Yes, you can freeze the shredded chicken for up to three months in your freezer, however, do not make the sauce until you are ready to serve it.

Can I Make It Ahead of Time?

Sure, you definitely can. You can prepare the chicken a day or so ahead of when you need it. However, do not make the sauce until the day are you planning on serving the chicken.

When was Alabama White Sauce Invented?

This delicious sauce was invented in 1925 in Decatur, Alabama by Robert Lee Gibson. He came up with this, it is believed, because he wanted to come up with a sauce to prevent the chicken, he was smoking from drying out. And as they say, the rest is history.

Why is Alabama BBQ Sauce White?

Quite simply, because of the mayonnaise.
