Electric Lexus UX under study for South Africa
Lexus has debuted the new UX 300e, a thoroughly enhanced version of the brand’s first fully-electric SUV.
The 300e will now be the flagship model of the UX line-up and to complement its unveiling, a big spec bump is coming to the whole range before the end of 2022, said Lexus.
However, while the local market will enjoy the updated 250h, h for hybrid, the battery-electric (BEV) 300e is “still under study for South African introduction,” said the company.
Everything new on the 300e
Compared to the first-generation 300e, the new model’s battery has been significantly sized up from 54.4kWh to 72.8kWh, now offering 40% more range for a maximum of 450km at an energy consumption rating of 166.7Wh/km.
The motor generates an output of 150kW and 300Nm and performance dampers are also fitted at the rear for a sporty ride.
“The UX 300e takes full advantage of the electric powertrain configuration,” said Lexus.
“As a unique BEV characteristic, it does not carry front-heavy objects such as an engine, allowing heavier components to be placed towards the centre of the vehicle for optimum front/rear weight distribution and moment of inertia.”
Changes to the cabin include a larger central infotainment screen, a slightly redesigned console and instrument panel, two new Type-C USB connectors in the front, the addition of a panoramic-view monitor with transparent ground surface display, and an improved “Hello Lexus” voice assistant.
Moreover, the Lexus Safety System has been expanded to now be more capable than before in the automaker’s ambition of having zero fatalities in road accidents involving its vehicles.

- Lane tracing assist
- Intersection support
- Lane departure alert
