Jaleel White
Best known for playing the geeky Steve Urkel on the sitcom Family Matters from 1989 to 1998, Jaleel White later appeared in the films Dreamgirls and The 15:17 to Paris, and on many TV shows including Grown Ups, Boston Legal, Bones, and Fresh Off the Boat.
Christina Ricci
Christina Ricci, pictured here in a still from the 1997 movie That Darn Cat, was one of the most prominent actors of the 1990s, starring in films such as Mermaids, The Addams Family, The Ice Storm, and Buffalo ’66. She has made several high-profile appearances on television in recent years, including a starring role as Zelda Fitzgerald in the series Z: The Beginning of Everything.
Elizabeth Berkley Lauren
After playing Jessie Spano on the hit high school sitcom Saved by the Bell, Elizabeth Berkley Lauren starred in Showgirls, a movie that was ridiculed upon its release in 1995 but is now regarded as a cult classic.
Recently, Berkley Lauren produced and starred in the Saved by the Bell reboot released in 2020.
Mario Lopez
Mario Lopez played A.C. Slater in Saved by the Bell and Saved by the Bell: The College Years, and reprised the role for the 2020 revival of the high school sitcom. His other TV work has included stints on The Bold and the Beautifuland Nip/Tuck, as well as hosting gigs on the entertainment news shows Extraand Access Hollywood.
Anna Chlumsky
These days, Anna Chlumsky is widely recognized for her role as political staffer Amy Brookheimer on Veep, but back in the ’90s, she was known mainly for playing the lead in the popular coming-of-age film My Girl and its sequel.
Neve Campbell’s breakout role was in the teen drama series Party of Five, which aired from 1994 to 2000. During that time, she also starred in several hit films, including the Scream horror series. In recent years, she has appeared in TV series such as House of Cards, Mad Men, and Grey’s Anatomy, and will once again reprise her role as Sidney Prescott in a new instalment of the Scream franchise to be released in 2022.
Teri Hatcher
After a string of smaller TV roles in the 1980s and early 1990s—including a memorable appearance on Seinfeld—Teri Hatcher landed the part of Lois Lane on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. In the 2000s, she starred in another hit TV show, Desperate Housewives, and has since appeared in several series including Supergirl and The Odd Couple.
Tia Mowry-Hardrict and Tamera Mowry-Housley
Twins Tia and Tamera starred together in the sitcom Sister, Sister from 1994 to 1999. They have both kept busy with TV work in the years since, and had their own reality show, Tia & Tamera, from 2011 to 2013.
Mark-Paul Gosselaar
Best known for playing Zack Morris on Saved by the Bell—a role he reprised in the 2020 reboot of the series—Mark-Paul Gosselaar has also starred on NYPD Blue, Franklin & Bash, and more recently on the Black-ish spinoff Mixed-ish.
Danielle Fishel
Danielle Fishel starred as Topanga Lawrence on the popular teen sitcom Boy Meets World from 1993 to 2000. She has since appeared in a handful of other TV series, including the spinoff Girl Meets Word.
Courteney Cox
Courteney Cox has appeared in dozens of movies and TV series since the mid-1980s, but is most widely known for playing Monica Geller on Friends, one of the most popular television series of all time. She also played the reporter Gale Weathers in the Scream films, a role she will reprise in the upcoming fifth instalment of the series.
Alfonso Ribeiro
Best known for playing preppy Carlton Banks on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air from 1990 to 1996, Alfonso Ribeiro was also a regular on the sitcom In the House in the late ’90s. He has also worked extensively as a television director, and is the current host of America’s Funniest Home Videos.
Lacey Chabert
After a recurring role on All My Children in the early ’90s, Lacey Chabert was cast as one of the five Salinger siblings on Party of Five. She has also worked extensively as a voice actor and played Gretchen Wieners in Mean Girls.
Pamela Anderson
Already famous as a Playboy model, Pamela Anderson transitioned into acting when she was cast as the “Tool Time Girl” on the sitcom Home Improvement in 1991. The following year, she attracted international attention playing lifeguard C.J. Parker on Baywatch. She has continued to do television work over the years, including appearances on Dancing with the Stars, and is known for her advocacy in support of PETA.
Jennifer Aniston
One of the biggest stars of the ’90s thanks to her role as Rachel Green on Friends, Jennifer Aniston has had a hugely successful career in the years since the show ended. She has starred in numerous box-office hits, including Bruce Almighty, The Break-Up, and Marley & Me, as well as independent films such as The Good Girl and Friends with Money. Recently, she played news anchor Alex Levy in the hit series The Morning Show.
Mara Wilson
As a child in the 1990s, Mara Wilson starred in several hit family films: Mrs. Doubtfire,Miracle on 34th Street, and Matilda. She is now a writer, playwright, and storyteller, and has done voice acting on BoJack Horseman and the podcast Welcome to Night Vale.
River Phoenix
Before his death in 1993, River Phoenix spent a decade building an acting career that included highlights Stand by Me, Running on Empty, and My Own Private Idaho. Phoenix won multiple awards for the latter film, released in 1991.
Bob Saget
Stand-up comedian Bob Saget became a household name in the late 1980s and early 1990s, when he played single father Danny Tanner on the popular sitcom Full House. From 1989 to 1997, he also hosted America’s Funniest Home Videos. He has since appeared in dozens of television shows in addition to his own comedy specials.
Ben Savage
The younger brother of fellow child actor Fred Savage, Ben Savage is best known for starring as Cory Matthews in the hit teen sitcom Boy Meets World. Along with his co-star Danielle Fishel, Savage reprised his role in the spinoff Girl Meets World from 2014 to 2017. He has also guest-starred on Criminal Minds, Homeland, and The Leftovers.
Christina Applegate
From 1987 to 1997, Christina Applegate played Kelly Bundy on the sitcom Married… with Children. She also starred in several films in the 1990s and 2000s, including Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead, The Big Hit, and Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. In 2019 and 2020, she starred in the dark comedy series Dead to Me.
Rachael Leigh Cook
Rachael Leigh Cook starred in some of the most popular teen and family films of the 1990s and early 2000s, including The Baby-Sitters Club, Tom and Huck, Strike! (All I Wanna Do), She’s All That, and Josie and the Pussycats. In recent years, she has worked as a voice actor (notably on the stop-motion sketch comedy series Robot Chicken), and will appear in an upcoming gender-swapped remake of She’s All That, titled He’s All That.
Matthew Perry
While playing Chandler Bing on Friendsfrom 1994 to 2004, Matthew Perry also starred in the films Fools Rush In, Almost Heroes, and The Whole Nine Yards. Since then, he has appeared on several series including The Good Wife and The Good Fight, and played Ted Kennedy in the mini-series The Kennedys After Camelot.
Will Smith
Already a rising star as part of the hip-hop duo DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, Will Smith saw his popularity explode in the early 1990s with his lead role in the sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. He solidified his acting career with parts in Six Degrees of Separation and Bad Boys, became a box-office draw with the blockbusters Independence Day and Men in Black, and pursued his music career with solo albums Big Willie Style and Willennium. Smith has remained an in-demand actor in the years since, with two Oscar nominations under his belt for his work in Ali and The Pursuit of Happyness.
Tiffani Thiessen
Tiffani Thiessen made a name for herself on two of the biggest hit TV shows of the 1990s, Saved by the Bell and Beverly Hills, 90210. In addition to the 2020 Saved by the Bell revival, she has appeared on numerous TV series in recent years, including Alexa & Katie and White Collar.
Jason Priestley
In recent years, Jason Priestley has starred in two popular Canadian series, Private Eyes and Call Me Fitz. Back in the ’90s, he was famous the world over for his portrayal of Brandon Walsh on the long-running teen drama Beverly Hills, 90210.
Tori Spelling
Tori Spelling has been busy in the years since she starred as Donna Martin on Beverly Hills, 90210, appearing in two separate 90210 revivals and multiple other series and movies, including The Masked Singer, The Last Sharknado: It’s About Time, and various reality shows with her husband Dean McDermott. She is also the bestselling author of several books, including the memoirs sTORI telling and uncharted terriTORI.
Tatyana Ali
Tatyana Ali played Ashley Banks on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air from 1990 to 1996, and subsequently pursued a music career, releasing her debut album Kiss the Sky in 1998. She has also had regular roles on the soap opera The Young and the Restlessand the sitcom Love That Girl!.
Sarah Michelle Gellar
While she’ll always be remembered for playing the titular character in the beloved supernatural drama series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Sarah Michelle Gellar also starred in several hit films in the late 1990s, including Cruel Intentions, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and Scream 2. These days, she continues to act in various television series and is also an entrepreneur, having co-founded the baking kit company Foodstirs.
Barry Watson
From 1996 to 2006, Barry Watson played Matt, the eldest sibling of the Camden family on the drama series 7th Heaven. Since then, he’s had recurring roles in several high-profile TV shows, including The Loudest Voice, Masters of Sex, and Gossip Girl.
Brendan Fraser
Brendan Fraser’s versatility as an actor was on full display in the 1990s, when he starred in the comedies Encino Man, Airheads, and George of the Jungle, the dramas School Ties and Gods and Monsters, and the action blockbuster The Mummy. In recent years, he has appeared on a number of TV series, including The Affair, Trust, and Condor.
Alicia Silverstone
In addition to the smash hit Clueless, Alicia Silverstone starred in the ’90s films The Crush, The Babysitter, Batman & Robin, and Excess Baggage. Her recent acting gigs include appearances in the films The Killing of a Sacred Deer, Book Club, and Sister of the Groom, as well as the TV series American Woman and The Baby-Sitters Club.
