Geely's luxury EV arm launches Zeekr 009 MPV; 700 km, price equivalent to RM 325k

Geely’s luxury electric vehicle (EV) brand, Zeekr, now has a second vehicle in its stable and that is the Zeekr 009. The 009 is the first electric MPV to have a range of more than 700 km and it also marks the debut of a new type of battery.

The MPV is available in two variants, the entry-level Zeekr 009 WE variant priced at CNY 499,000 (~RM 325,000) and the Zeekr 009 ME variant priced at an even more eye-watering CNY 588,000 (~RM 384,000).

While equipment remains the same between the two variants, it is the battery pack that sets them apart. The WE variant comes with a 116-kWh battery pack giving the MPV a groundbreaking range of 702 km based on the CLTC.

This makes the 009 one of the rare electric MPV to break the 700 km range mark. All-wheel-drive also comes as standard for the 009.

The ME variant, on the other hand, comes with a 140-kWh battery. It is also the first vehicle in the world to come equipped with the CTP 3.0 Qilin battery launched by CATL earlier this year.

This gives the MPV a range of 822 km based on the CLTC, making it the longest range all-wheel-drive electric MPV in the world.

We’ve talked about the 009’s unique design language in previous reports. Designers have made full use of the front ‘grille’ by creating a light show function with 154 LEDs which Zeekr calls the Fountain of Light. The grille also has a welcome function that lights up as the driver approaches.

Other unique design cues include an A-pillar completely made of glass. But don’t worry if this would compromise the MPV’s safety, Zeekr claims that the 009 has a torsional stiffness of 36450 Nm/deg, making it the world’s stiffest MPV to date.

Zeekr also claims that the 009 is the world’s first MPV with autonomous pilot assistance, so the car can drive itself without needing the driver’s help. Sorry Tesla, but Zeekr beat you in the MPV game.

Inside, the Zeekr 009 sits six, it is the second row of seats that you want to be in as they are even equipped with massage function.

Rear passengers also get a 15.6-inch android infotainment system that is hooked up to 14 Yamaha speakers. The headrest also comes with its own speakers for a fully immersive experience.

As mentioned, the Zeekr 009 is all-wheel-drive only. The electric motors produce 544 PS and 686 Nm, allowing the car to make the century sprint in just 4.5 seconds. It is the only MPV that can make the 0-100 km/h sprint in four seconds.

You can say that Zeekr has thrown everything they can think of into building the ultimate luxury MPV into the Zeekr 009 which probably explains the price. Zeekr expects deliveries for the first batch of 009s to start in January 2023.
