Gordon Ramsay divides people over his London restaurant's Full English breakfast as some claim the eggs are 'raw'
Gordon divides fans over the runniness of his poached eggs – as some people claim they’re raw
Gordon Ramsay divided the internet with his Full English and avocado toast breakfast from his restaurant Heddon Street Kitchen. The celebrity chef took to Twitter to share what many thought was a delightful clip of the morning meal.
In the video, someone can be seen cutting open one of the top poached eggs placed on top of the avocado toast, as its oozy yolk spills out. The dish was accompanied by a fry-up with rashers of bacon, one sausage, scrambled eggs, fried portobello mushroom, grilled tomato and a pot of baked beans, all served with a cup of tea and a champagne flute of Bucks Fizz.
Gordon wrote in the tweet: “Wake up it’s a beautiful morning… for a delicious breakfast over at Heddon Street Kitchen !! @GordonRamsayGRR.”
His brekky attracted 101 Retweets, 15 Quote Tweets and over 1,571 likes, but not everyone was left impressed. Many social media users were lauding the chef’s skill, as one person praised: “Vibrant yolk, perfectly poached, every inch of the toast covered in avocado. Cheers to the staff looks amazing.”
Another replied, “Oww those poached eggs look delicious,” as a third commented, “Love an oozing egg. Yummilicious.” Others shared gifs of Gordon saying “incredible”, while someone else shared a meme of singer Nick Jonas doing the famous ‘chef’s kiss’ action.
Not everyone was convinced of his cooking methods, arguing the egg’s yolk wasn’t “runny” but completely raw instead. One person joked: “Do you get a silly straw with that egg?”
A second replied: “That egg looks disgusting…”
While another asked: “So that’s an edible egg huh Mr @GordonRamsay.”
Some even went on to take aim at other items on the dish, saying the Full English’s sausage was also raw and the toast looked like a “real throat scratcher” – one even went to say they thought the portion size was “woeful”. However, in the UK you can have runny yolks without it being raw.
Eggs in the UK which have the British Lion mark means they have been laid by hens vaccinated against salmonella, as well as being produced to the highest food safety standards. The British Lion scheme means babies, pregnant women and other vulnerable groups can eat runny eggs which have the Lion mark – so Gordon’s egg should be safe.
A Full English at Gordon’s Heddon Street Kitchen is sold for £15, while his Smashed Avocado on sourdough toast goes for £13.25. A glass of their Bucks Fizz is priced at £12.50. The priciest item on the restaurant’s ‘Breakfast Menu’ is the Eggs Royale with smoked salmon, poached egg, hollandaise and English muffin at £17.50.
