Stuffing. It’s one of my favorite things about a holiday dinner. I have always made my stuffing in the turkey. This year however, I decided to make a breast of turkey since I wasn’t serving many. That means there was no turkey to put the stuffing in. Time to improvise. I decided to make the stuffing in an Instant Pot electric pressure cooker. Since the stuffing wouldn’t be getting flavor from the bird, I decided to add a little meat and a little fruit, giving me Instant Pot Sausage And Apple Stuffing. This flavorful stuffing is really easy to make. We don’t like dry stuffing. I had wondered if the stuffing would turn out moist enough for us and it turned out to be quite moist. This Sausage And Apple Stuffing was a big hit with all of us, particularly my Mom. Not only did I like the flavor, I also liked that the Instant Pot did most of the work. I only had to put the ingredients in, there was no stirring, basting or anything else. Here’s how I make it.

Instant Pot Sausage And Apple Stuffing

Equipment Needed

Ingredients

  • 12 cups dried bread cubes (I used Pepperidge Farms Seasoned Cube Stuffing)
  • 1 lb Italian sausage
  • 8 tbsp butter, melted
  • 2 Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced
  • 1 cup onion, diced or minced
  • 1 cup celery, diced or minced
  • 2 tsp poultry seasoning
  • 2 tsp onion powder
  • 2 cups turkey stock

Instructions

Place the ground sausage into the Instant Pot.

Set the Instant Pot to saute and brown the sausage.

While the sausage is cooking, melt the butter in the microwave (or on the stovstop in a small pan if you prefer).

Once the sausage has been browned, add in the stuffing cubes and butter and combine thoroughly.

Add the turkey stock and seasonings and stir thoroughly.

Add the apples and onions and stir thoroughly.

Seal the Instant Pot.

Set the Instant Pot to slow cook and cook for 2.5 hours.

Serve immediately.

Should you have leftovers or desire the stuffing to remain moist longer just add a little extra turkey stock.
