ITV This Morning viewers left fuming as celeb chef Gino suggests £100 truffle for 'midweek' pasta recipe

ITV This Morning fans were left fuming as celebrity chef Gino D’Acampo used a £100 ingredient in his ‘midweek’ recipe. He was slammed by viewers after insisting that truffle should be used, with one fan of the showing calling “just insulting” amid the cost of living crisis.

Gino made a creamy chipolata and mascarpone pasta during the segment, with white truffle grated on top. He described the pasta as a “perfect midweek dinner” despite the expensive additional garnish, which many thought was unnecessary to use and inappropriate to suggest given its price tag.

During the segment, the unapologetic chef said the recipe needed the truffle and he would use it at home. He even joked that the luxury ingredient would be taken out of the pay cheque of hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, reports The Mirror.

But angry viewers criticised the segment on social media, with some describing the show as out of touch. One wrote: “A #CostOfLivingCrisis and @thismorning is cooking with Truffle costing £100/£150. Seriously? #OutOfTouch You poor people can use essence or extract! #ThisMorning”.

Another posted: “#ThisMorning for goodness sake, please use your cooking slot to produce healthy meals on a budget which I’m sure your viewers are crying out for. It’s not rocket science. Gino’s recipe with truffle was just insulting #Furious.”

A third added: “Is #Thismorning deliberately trying to antagonise viewers? We’re in the middle of a financial crisis and they’re using white truffle in their pasta recipe. They are trying to justify the £100 price tag because it flavours your eggs… wtf! Please @thismorning read the room!”

The truffle had been stored in a container with rice and eggs. Gino had explained during the segment that by doing this, it would permeate into the eggs and rice if you wanted to make a risotto.

Another angry viewer said: “#ThisMorning Tone deaf to what’s going on in the country at the moment. White truffle. Come on guys at least pretend to care.” Someone else posted: “Nice to see #ThisMorning is in touch with the #CostOfLivingCrisis … currently cooking with one ingredient that’s £100 to £150.”
