When you ask the internet for something, it always comes through, especially if what you’re asking it for is a name. Remember in 2016 when “Boaty McBoatface” won a naming contest for a new research ship in the U.K.? Or when a bird in an enclosure went viral after being named “Hooty McOwlface” in 2013?

Well, Jeep has entered the parking lot and is planning to launch a contest of its own to name its upcoming mid-sized luxury electric SUV, according to an interview with MotorTrend. Currently known by the code name “Wagoneer S,” with the “S” representing “speed, striking, and sexy,” as per Chief Design Officer Ralph Gilles, the big sport-ute is quite apparently in need of a more creative badge.

“We have a few in the basket,” Jeep brand president Christian Meunier said of the automaker’s options, but the internet can do better, right? Perhaps learning from the infamous Boaty McBoatface, um, triumph, Jeep says its social media sweepstakes will be different because it will offer up some suggestions and direction as part of the naming contest slated to start in November.

Timing is tight, as the nameless EV is slotted for a release in early 2023, and Meunier wants a name by December 31, 2022.

A quick refresher: The “Wagoneer S” is a planned two-row luxury SUV similar in size to the Grand Cherokee – Jeep should just call it the Grand CherokeEV, if you ask me – that can be optioned with up to 600 horsepower. With the right driver, Jeep says it can possibly get up to 400 miles (643.7 km) of range. It admittedly looks rather elegant, and blends tradition with the ultra-modern on the design side, but we’ll see what cargo space and rear seat comfort are like once we know more of its specifications.

I secretly hope that a clever name is chosen, but I’m ready to be disappointed. So, readers of Driving.ca, what would you name this vehicle?
