Jeep plans to launch four pure electric vehicles by 2025, and one of the 100% EVs is a luxury model. Codenamed Jeep Wagoneer S, the luxury model will likely compete with the Range Rover Sport Electric that’s due in 2024.

What is it?

The Jeep Wagoneer S Electric is not a full-size model and isn’t related to the body-on-frame Jeep Wagoneer and Jeep Grand Wagoneer. Jeep is yet to decide on the final name for the electric SUV. Name aside, we are looking at a mid-size SUV slightly smaller than the Grand Cherokee (193.5 x 77.5 x 70.8/70.9 in.). Underpinned by the STLA Large platform, though, it may offer better interior space (Grand Cherokee: 144.6 cu. ft.).

As a Jeep, the Wagoneer S is boxier than most European and Japanese luxury SUVs on the market and has the look of an authentic SUV. The front of the vehicle has a forward-leaning appearance. It has slim and aggressive headlamps, a faux seven-slot grille that has been illuminated, a sloping hood with a power bulge, a functional lower air intake, and vertical side air inlets.

A clean bodyline accentuates the windswept profile. As the roof slopes down, it forms a sporty yet classy “hovering wing,” which is supported by two soaring D-pillars. In the typical manner for Jeeps, the doors are plain, but they have flush-fitting handles that help reduce drag on the road. From a distance, on-lookers would be able to identify the model as a Jeep by its trapezoidal wheel arches. In addition to the special roof spoiler and the notably raked back glass, a full-width tail lamp communicates sophistication at the rear.

Specifications

STLA Large is developed by Stellantis for electric vehicles that primarily target the U.S. market. Electric-first platforms aren’t as space-efficient as dedicated EV platforms, but they’re better than modified ICE platforms. The STLA Large platform would be more advanced than what a heavily modified version of the Grand Cherokee’s Giorgio platform could have been.

Jeep may offer the Wagoneer S with a battery pack having a gross energy capacity of between 101 and 118 kWh. The company is targeting an EPA-est. range of 400 miles for this model. Expect one motor powering each axle, enabling an all-wheel drive drivetrain layout.

The rear motor could be comparatively more powerful, and it could be possible to turn off the front motor to reduce energy consumption in an ‘Eco’ drive mode. We expect two or more power output levels, and Jeep has confirmed that 600 horsepower will be the ceiling. The company aims for a 0-60 mph acceleration time of around 3.5 seconds for the high-spec Wagoneer S.

Price & Release Date

The Jeep Wagoneer S Electric will make its public debut in 2023 and become available to reserve by April of the same year in the United States. Prices could start at around USD 75,000. Production will take place at a yet-to-be-disclosed location in North America starting in 2024, and customer deliveries should begin the same year.
