Kimpton Hotels is rebranding one of its properties in Mexico as the company’s first all-inclusive resort.

Known primarily for its boutique hotels across the world, Kimpton is joining with Sunset World and Playa Hotels & Resorts to convert Hacienda Tres Ríos Resort into an all-inclusive property in Riviera Maya’s Playa del Carmen, not too far south from Cancún.

The conversion is expected to be complete by early 2024.

“This development is a testament to Kimpton’s continued growth and broad resonance,” Kimpton CEO Mike DeFrino said in a release. “We couldn’t have found better partners than Sunset World and Playa Hotels & Resorts to bring our first all-inclusive resort to life, and believe our special brand of boutique hospitality will translate perfectly in this renowned part of Mexico.”

Complete Renovation Incoming

First opened in 2008, Hacienda Tres Ríos Resort will get a complete makeover. All of the 255 guest rooms, suites, and villas will be renovated.

Amenities will include five swimming pools, 11 culinary options, a spa, a fitness center, Kids Club, and water sports. All of it is located directly on the beachfront.

The hotel will include more than 25,000 square feet of meet and event space

The resort will also make use of the three freshwater rivers and tropical forests that are part of the 326-acre property. A nature park will allow visitors to view up to 90 species of animals and 120 species of plants.

While hotel officials believe everything a guest could need will be available on the property, the region also boasts Mayan ruins, golf courses, entertainment, shopping, and restaurants.

Experienced Partners

“With 30 years in the hotel industry, we know that one must continue to reinvent our business,” said Daniel Arroyo, vice president of new development for Sunset World. “We are confident that this new venture will provide new and unique experiences to our guests.”

By teaming up with Playa Hotels & Resorts, Kimpton has a partner with great knowledge of the all-inclusive industry. Playa manages close to a dozen tools in Mexico and has worked with Hyatt, Wyndham, and others in launching all-inclusive resorts.

“With Kimpton’s vision and our proven execution, this new all-inclusive, high-end boutique brand is a welcome addition to our portfolio of resorts,” said Fernando Mulet, Playa’s executive vice president and chief investment officer.

While this is the first all-inclusive venture for Kimpton, it does have plenty of other properties, including the 72-room Aluna Hotel, also in Riviera Maya.
