An impaired driving suspect from Kingston had to be woken up by police on the side of the road early Thursday morning.

Leeds County Ontario Provincial Police located a vehicle stopped on the side of the Highway 401 westbound lanes near Lansdowne at about 1:20 a.m.

The male driver was unresponsive but woke up after further interaction, provincial police said Thursday. It was determined that he had been consuming alcohol, and the man was arrested.

The 47-year-old from Kingston was charged with impaired driving, driving while exceeding the legal blood alcohol concentration, and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order. The accused was released from custody and is to appear in Brockville court on Nov. 18.
