Lidl bakery items ranked from best to worst by Londoner who's tried them all but shoppers outraged by number 1
Lidl’s bakery is famed for its great prices and tasty treats
All Lidl shoppers know the chain’s bakery is unbeatable when compared to its supermarket rivals. The prices are great and the options are varied – so varied in fact it would take a lot of time and commitment to taste everything on offer.
One foodie has decided he has the necessary determination and dedication to do just this, taking to TikTok to share his rating of every baked good sold in the supermarket bakery. Joey spent months tasting each treat and giving it a rating out of ten before compiling a final list ranking them from best to worst.
As a disclaimer, the Lidl shopper did not include bread, or cookies (because they are apparently always sold out) in his ranking. He tried 26 bakery items overall and deemed the 69p Vegetable Slice Pizza “the best thing in the bakery by a country mile”. Other Lidl lovers were baffled by his choice of winner.
Many could not believe the 49p maple and pecan plait was ranked 18th. “The maple and pecan plait deserved justice,” commented one sweet tooth. “Maple pecan plait deserves better,” added another. Joey admitted he found the classic treat “dry”.
The item ranked last was the pain aux raisin (the very pastry Great British Bake Off contestants were asked to make for the technical in this season’s bread week) which costs 49p. Joey’s top five items in ascending order were: Toffee yum yum (49p), cherry and custard lattice (49p), almond croissant (45p), chocolate brownie (59p), and veggie pizza (69p).
Other popular items that shoppers felt were not given enough credit in the ranking were the 69p cheese twist and 59p chocolate and hazelnut doughnut. Joey ranked the cheese twist at number 17 on the list and the chocolate hazelnut doughnut at number 7.
“Nah the cheese twist has to be number 1,” said one fan of the savoury pastry. “They have been sold out constantly in my local Lidl for months!!” Another declared: “My blood is made up of 80% cheese twists.”
Meanwhile, those who prefer sweet over savoury filed in to share their love of the chocolate hazelnut doughnut. One shopper declared it “the single best item of food on this planet” while another said it was “to die for”.
There were, however, those who agreed with Joey’s ranking and were excited to see love being shared for the veggie pizza. “I was WAITING for the vegetable pizza slice! Literally superior and now I need one,” commented one follower. “Why was I genuinely nervous for the vegetable pizza?” asked another. “In first place where she should be”.
