Lidl Christmas Advert 2022: Watch adorable Lidl Bear take centre stage

The Christmas countdown begins when supermarkets release their highly-anticipated festive adverts. The latest shop to drop its Christmas commercial is Lidl which sees an adorable teddy bear take centre stage after he accidentally becomes a major celebrity. Will he remember to come home for Christmas?

The adorable advert will hit screens on Friday, November 4 on ITV during Coronation Street’s commercial break.

However, it will not be the first time viewers have seen the furry little Lidl bear.

Eagle-eyed Britons may have already spotted Lidl bear popping up across the country on television, in newspapers, and on social media, as the star of this year’s show has been teased ahead of the Christmas advert.

The bear’s story begins when a dad accidentally shrinks his Lidl jumper in the washing machine.

His young daughter has the clever idea of putting the shrunken jumper on her teddy bear.

Just like that, a star is born and he accidentally finds fame by being spotted on CCTV in the aisles of Lidl with the little girl.

He then becomes the face of the supermarket’s advertising campaign and experiences the highs and lows of fame at Christmas time.

Before long, he’s on the red carpet, being driven around in a limousine and having his photograph taken.

Will the Lidl bear remember the little girl who looked after him in time for Christmas dinner?

Claire Farrant, marketing director at Lidl GB, said: “What stands Lidl Bear apart from other Christmas characters is its hilarious, deadpan expression.

“By displaying no emotion it manages to create humour and deliver our message about what’s actually important this Christmas.

“You also won’t be seeing Lidl Bear for sale in any of our stores – because, in the face of unrealistic Christmas expectations and pressure, we know what really matters is being with the people we care about.”

Peter de Roos, chief commercial officer at Lidl GB, explained: “Instead of selling Lidl Bear, we’re asking everyone who can to spare a bear, and other toys, to give to those in need this Christmas.

“From Kevin to Percy and everything in between, all toys will be welcomed with open arms – because there’s room for everyone at the table this Christmas.”

Customers can drop off new and unopened toys and games, to be gifted to children that need support in their local area.

The advert is dramatically different to last year’s Christmas commercial for Lidl.

In 2021 the supermarket’s one-minute advert encouraged shoppers to look forward, not backward.

The advert showed a family sitting down for a traditional Christmas dinner with all the trimmings set to the soundtrack Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.

The advert then cuts to the same festive scene – but set in the distant future, with family members using a laser to carve the turkey.

The Lidl 2022 Christmas advert is available to stream on YouTube.
