In Luxembourg, the government is funding the construction of 672 additional charging points for electric cars, 44 of which are fast chargers, with more than 4.5 million euros. A total of 29 projects from 19 companies have now been selected as part of the first call for funding.

However, 510 of the 672 charging points will only be used by the companies themselves. Of the remaining 162 charging points, 142 are to be available for public use around the clock and 20 during the companies’ opening hours. It is not clear from the announcement whether all 44 fast chargers will be publicly accessible charging points.

At least for the fast chargers, companies will be subsidised with up to 50 per cent of the investment costs related to the construction of the charging station. There are additional exemptions for small and medium-sized enterprises. The Luxembourg government’s funding for charging infrastructure projects is aimed at companies of all sizes. The next call for funding is scheduled for early 2023.

“These results show that Luxembourg companies are ready to take up the challenge of electric mobility,” says Energy Minister Claude Turmes. “Every new charging station installed on our territory contributes to improving the density of our charging point network, which is already one of the densest in Europe.”
