Is Vietnam the next big vacation spot or business travel destination? Marriott International is banking on the possibility.

Marriott has announced plans to add up to 30 hotels and nearly 9,000 rooms in Vietnam in the coming years. In addition to expanding its current operations there, it plans to debut some of its signature brands, including Ritz-Carlton Residences, Marriott Hotels, Westin, and Courtyard by Marriott.

“Vietnam is a vibrant destination and has over the years experienced record levels of tourism as international travelers flocked to the country and domestic travelers began to discover the many wonders available in their own backyard,” Jakob Helgen, Marriott area vice president, said in a release.

“With the recent reopening of borders, we are hopeful for Vietnam to rebound rapidly, and we are excited to expand across even more parts of this captivating country.”

The plans call for a major increase in Marriott’s premium brands in Vietnam.

  • Sheraton Hotels & Resorts will open in several new destinations, including on the Emerald Island of Phu Quoc, Hạ Long Bay, Dalat, and the shores of Bình Châu. 
  • Renaissance Hotels will open in Da Nang.
  • Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts will open in Da Nang and Cam Ranh.
  • Marriott Hotels will open in both Hanoi and Hội An.
  • Westin plans to open in both Hanoi and Cam Ranh.
  • Marriott Executive Apartments, the company’s long-term choice, will be added to Da Nang.

Marriott is also planning an expansion of hotels in its select service portfolio.

  • Fairfield by Marriott will open in Vĩnh Yên, Hạ Long, and Hanoi.
  • Courtyard by Marriott has plans for Da Nang, Hạ Long, and Nha Trang.

“Our growth in Vietnam reflects the trust our local owners and franchisees continue to have in Marriott International, and we look forward to presenting them with opportunities to leverage our comprehensive portfolio of 30 brands, as well as our strong distribution network,” said Rajeev Menon, Marriott’s president of Asia Pacific.

The company has no publicly stated timeline on all of the expansion.

It currently operates 10 hotels in Vietnam, featuring six of its brands and with nearly 3,300 rooms. If you’re planning a trip, consider:
