Mercedes-AMG reveals high-performance EQE SUV 43 and 53 variants
Both AMG EQE SUV versions are powered by two electric motors and offer up to 505kW and 1000Nm in ultimate trim
Mercedes-AMG has finally lifted the lid on its first-ever all-electric performance SUV in the form of the EQE SUV.
The EQE SUV was unveiled in 43 and 53 guises alongside the standard non-performance Mercedes-Benz versions.
Both AMG variants sit on the same Mercedes-EQ EVA platform and get two electric motors; one on the front axle and another at the rear.
The Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV is slightly shorter than the sedan
The EQE 43 represents the entry point into AMG’s EQE SUV range, which makes use of a 90.6kWh battery that works with the electric motors to produce 350kW and 858Nm.
At the top of the range is the EQE 53, which makes use of the same battery, but gets 460kW/950Nm instead. Opting for the AMG Dynamic Plus package brings these figures up to 505kW and 1000Nm.
In terms of performance, it’ll take the 43 just 4.3 seconds to get to 100kmh, while AMG notes that the EQE 53 can hit 100km/h in just 3.5 seconds before topping out at 240km/h with the AMG Dynamic Plus package equipped.
Unlike the Audi e-tron S Sportback, the Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 only has two motors
The standard AMG braking system uses 415mm rotors and six-piston calipers at the front, and 378mm rotors with single-piston calipers at the back. Carbon-ceramic brakes can also be optioned.
The 90.6kWh battery can charge at a maximum rate of 170kW, meaning that up to 170 kilometres of range can be potentially regained in just 15 minutes.
Considering it carries such a large battery, it should come as no surprise to hear that the EQE is quite a porker, and it tips the scales at a hefty 2.6-tonnes.
As standard, the EQE SUV rides on 20-inch wheels
In terms of total range, the EQE 43 is able to drive up to 431-488km on a single charge, whereas the quicker, higher-output EQE 53 drops this down to 375-470km.
As standard, both AMG EQE models get air suspension with adaptive damping and rear-axle steering.
On the inside, it gets a 12.3-inch digital cluster, a 17.7-inch infotainment screen, and a 12.3-inch passenger display.
The Hyperscreen is optional in the EQE SUV
It can also be optioned with the large hyperscreen that we’ve already seen on the EQS sedan. This unit stretches the entire width of the cabin, and runs Mercedes’ latest operating system.
Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that the EQE SUV will be coming to Australia and will likely launch here sometime in 2023.
