Launched in 2018, the DS 3 Crossback SUV originally sat alongside the now departed DS 3 supermini. Now DS has taken the opportunity of facelifting its smallest car to lose the Crossback name, revise the exterior styling, add new technology and improve the E-Tense electric version. It’s been officially unveiled at the 2022 Paris Motor Show.

The outside of the facelifted DS 3 doesn’t look too different from before. At the front the “DS Wings” LED daytime running lights that we’ve seen on the DS 4 and DS 7 feature, as does a reshaped grille. Towards the rear there’s a new black finished surround on the rear lights. At the side there remains a choice of 17 or 18-inch wheels.

The diesel BlueHDi engines were previously dropped from the DS 3 Crossback line up, so the DS 3 only has three powertrains on offer. The range starts with the PureTech 100 which uses a 1.2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 99bhp. Above that there’s the 130 petrol with the same 1.2-litre unit but with a rise in power to 128bhp. We expect a six-speed manual transmission and eight-speed automatic will be available. DS claims efficiency figures of up to 49.6mpg and emissions of 128 g/km of CO2 for the petrol models.

Unlike its internal-combustion engined alternatives, the all-electric E-Tense has been given some performance upgrades. With a new 400V electric motor and larger 54kWh battery, range grows from 199 to 250 miles and charging has improved too with a 10-80 per cent recharge taking 25 minutes. Power has grown to 154bhp from 134bhp, the torque figure of 260Nm stays the same.

The main changes inside the DS 3 are based on the DS ‘IRIS’ infotainment system. It can be personalised to give the occupants easier access to key functions on the 10.3-inch central screen. The infotainment system also extends to the head-up display and the configurable seven-inch digital driver’s screen.

DS hasn’t said when the refreshed DS 3 will go on sale in the UK, but it’s been available in France since 27 September.
