Fresh from the success of the industry-led 8th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association recorded sales of 35,282 units sold—a 64.2 percent growth last September 2022 compared to 21,493 units in the same period last year.

Sales of passenger cars (PC) and commercial vehicles (CV) both increased by double digits last September at 21.2 percent and 83.1 percent, respectively. Year-on-year passenger car sales went up to 7,976 units from 6,580 units, while commercial vehicle sales increased to 27,306 units from 14,913 units.

Month-on-month, industry sales also rose by 16.9 percent from sales in August at 30,185 units.

With CAMPI-TMA recording a year-on-year double-digit growth for seven consecutive months, new car sales are showing a 29.5 percent growth from January to September 2022. So far, 248,154 new vehicles have been sold compared to 2021’s 191,605 units.

Year-to-date, industry growth was supported by strong sales in commercial vehicles, rising by 44 percent to 188,096 units from 60,982 units. On the other hand, passenger car sales in the first three quarters of the year fell 1.5 percent to 60,058 units from 60,982 vehicles sold in 2021.

Last September, CAMPI welcomed three new members into its fold: Hyundai Motor Philippines, Sojitz G Auto Philippines, and Chery Auto Philippines. These three new members managed to move 372 units, 1,112 units, and 2,429 units, respectively.

Overall though, Toyota Motor Philippines maintained its strong lead in the industry moving 16,138 units in September 2022 alone, enough for a 45.74 percent market share. Mitsubishi Motor Philippines is in second with 4,932 units (13.98 percent), followed by Ford Motor Philippines in third with 2,896 units (8.21 percent). Chery has managed to break into the Top 5 with 2,429 units sold (6.88 percent) in fourth, and finally, Suzuki is in fifth with 1,637 units sold (4.64 percent).

Year-to-date, Toyota still commands a 50.33 percent market share (124,884 units) followed by Mitsubishi (35,139), Ford (16,244), Nissan (16,068), and Suzuki (14,475).
