One iconic Christmas market will definitely not be returning for 2022

Just one more autumnal occasion to get through before it’s finally socially acceptable to get into the Christmas spirit. One of the highlights of all the hundreds of festivities going on in the city is the abundance of markets dotted all over the place.

Packed full of indulgent food stalls, steaming mulled wine, and gifts and trinkets to browse through to your heart’s content. MyLondon will be bringing you all of the insider knowledge, information and what to expect from the city’s biggest and best markets for you to choose from.

But are there any not opening this year? Yes, there is, we’re sorry to say. And it just so happens to belong to one of London’s most iconic department stores.

Selfridges exclusively told MyLondon they would not be bringing back their market for 2022. Having previously launched in 2020, The Christmas Market on the Mews had a decadent collection of festive food trucks, fairground rides, and family-friendly attractions for everyone to enjoy.

Last year Selfridges’ market featured some of the best street food in the city, like savoury and sweet waffles; pie and mash; Filipino street food; doughnuts; and gourmet burgers. Visitors could also find plenty of warming drinks, such as mulled wine, warm apple cider, and hot buttered rum.

But don’t fret, just because their market isn’t returning for its third year, Selfridges is boasting a jam-packed calendar of Christmas events the public can still enjoy. Kicking things off on November 25, there’ll be Christmas Shop Entertainment; Season’s Feastings Spectacular; musical entertainment; their festive Santa’s Grotto, and Feasting Table Workshops.

Then come December, Selfridges will be hosting a special Breakfast with Santa and live shows at Dolly’s Christmas Café. So even though there’s no market to wander around, there’s plenty of other activities to look forward to.
