People in Thailand queued overnight for BYD Atto 3, just like for iPhones

The BYD Atto 3 went on sale in Thailand from 1-November and during the night before, queues were formed outside of BYD showrooms.

A buyer, Mr Panithan, told Blink Drive that he had to take a flight from Chiang Rai to Bangkok in order to book the Atto 3. The BYD dealership in Chiang Rai only accepted full payment in cash due to limited allocations (reportedly 500 nationwide). To finance the Atto 3, he flew to the showroom in Bangkok.
He said that the first person who queued at the BYD showroom in Bangkok arrived at 8 p.m. The queue began forming past midnight after 1 a.m. and there were more than 30 people by 4 a.m.
Some BYD showrooms in Thailand reportedly had more than 100 buyers queueing overnight.

This is not unlike the phenomenon with every new iPhone that comes out with buyers queueing overnight in many countries. However, this is said to be the first time in Thailand that people queued overnight for a car.

To recap, the BYD Atto 3 is priced at THB 1,199,900 (around RM 146k). Battery capacity is rated at 60.48 kWh with a WLTP range of up to 420 km. The front-mounted electric motor provides 204 PS/310 Nm.

It has a Type 2 connector for AC charging (up to 6.6 kW) and the 80kW DC – CCS 2 connector. It also has Vehicle to Load (V2L) function which provides up to 2.2 kW.

In Malaysia, the BYD Atto 3 and the e6 are expected to arrive as soon as next month (December 2022).
