Ram pushes back electric truck reveal to January 2023

Ram’s electrified truck concept will make its debut at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas on January 5, 2023, the automaker announced early November, pushing back the reveal from its initial date this fall. The Ram 1500 Revolution Concept presages a production EV truck due out in 2024.

The announcement was accompanied by a new teaser image of the truck in profile, which suggested a pickup with a very cab-forward look and a long wheelbase. Ram’s press release underscored its promise that the Revolution will beat out rivals – by 2024, that will include the Ford F-150 Lightning, Chevrolet Silverado EV, and Rivian R1T – in key areas like range, towing and payload capabilities, and charging times.

The electric Ram will ride on Stellantis’ STLA Frame chassis, one of four EV platforms the automaker is working on; in some applications, this architecture will apparently offer up to 500 miles (800-plus kilometres) of driving range.

The Ram line has, since 2019, included a mild-hybrid powertrain offering that pairs a 48-volt system to a gas engine. Sibling brand Jeep last year saw its Wrangler 4xe become the best-selling plug-in hybrid electric vehicle in America. Ram’s press release said it will offer electrification in the majority of its lineup by 2025; and in all of its lineup by 2030.

Stellantis’ Dodge brand has also seen the debut of one of its new vehicles delayed recently: its final “Last Call” special edition, intended as a send-off for the Charger and Challenger models being axed after model-year 2023, was supposed to bow this week at the SEMA show in Las Vegas. While initially blaming the cancellation of that reveal on supply-chain issues, it’s since come out that instead the high-horsepower muscle car has simply been blowing up engines during testing. It’s rumoured that car will boast 909 horsepower.
