Ranger stays out front

Toyota and Ford continue battle for the top in the light commercials market, while Mitsubishi makes big gains.

There were 3,965 new commercials registered last month, which was down 16.8 per cent when compared with 4,765 in October 2021.

The year-to-date total is also down by 6.6 per cent, falling from 43,620 units at this stage a year ago to 40,720.

Ford’s Ranger, pictured, made it three months in a row as the top model after selling 1,491 units in October, an 8.3 per cent drop from 1,626 in the same month a year ago.

In second spot was the Toyota Hilux on 638 registrations, a year-on-year increase of 8.1 per cent from 590 units, and Mitsubishi’s Triton was third with 230 after a 206.7 per cent jump from just 75 sales in the previous October.

The Ranger also leads the way on the year-to-date ladder with 8,938 registrations and a 21.9 per cent share of the market.

Next is the Hilux on 8,256 and 20.3 per cent, and the Triton on 5,547 units and 13.6 per cent.

On the marques’ ladder, Ford was top in October with 1,541 registrations, down 13.9 per cent from 1,790 units a year ago, and a market share of 38.9 per cent.

Toyota’s 743 registrations last month were down 8.3 per cent from 810 October 2021, while Mitsubishi was third on 252, an increase of 89.5 per cent from 133 units.

Toyota leads the way year to date with 9,931 registrations and a market share of 24.4 per cent. Ford is second with 9,313 and 22.9 per cent and Mitsubishi is third on 6,010 and 14.8 per cent.

Hiace tops market

As for used-imported commercials, there were 532 registered in October compared to 714 in the same month last year for a decrease of 25.5 per cent.

However, the year-to-date total is 6,593 and 19.2 per cent higher than the 5,533 units registered at this stage a year ago.

Toyota’s Hiace was the leading model on 149 registrations and a market share of 28 per cent. However, the number of units was down 19 per cent from 184 registrations in the previous October.

The Nissan NV350 was next on 77, up 2.7 per cent from 75 units over the same period, and the Toyota Dyna was third with 30 registrations, down 11.8 per cent from 34.

The Hiace was also the top model year to date with 1,707 sales and a 25.9 per cent market share, and the NV350 is second on 1,008 units and 15.3 per cent.

Toyota was the top marque last month with 219 registrations, an 18.9 per cent drop from 270 a year ago, followed by Nissan with 115 units and Hino on 47.

Year to date, Toyota has 2,384 registrations and a 36.2 per cent market share. Nissan is next on 1,664 and 25.2 per cent, with Hino third on 567 and 8.6 per cent.
