That said, one thing to keep in mind is that darker shades tend to make a space look smaller, so you may want to avoid painting your powder room navy blue. Or you can always experiment with different tones. “I’ve played around and made colors darker and lighter by diluting or enhancing the pigmentation,” Shea adds.
