The Problem: I use garlic in almost everything I make, but it’s a total pain to chop. Chopping garlic is a tedious task that leaves your hands, knife, and cutting board super sticky and with a lingering odor.
The Solution: The Chef’n GarlicZoom Garlic Chopper offers a way to easily chop garlic to your desired size without ever leaving your hands sticky and smelly.
Just like TikTok user @exbadd1e, I’m also a garlic girl. Oh, the recipe calls for only one clove of garlic? No, what it actually needs is three. From marinades to garlic naan to my mom’s Guyanese garlic pork, there are so many recipes I make that use and highlight this kitchen staple.
And with all of those recipes, comes tons of garlic prep — which means smelly, sticky hands are bound to happen. I tried tons of tips to make this task easier and spare my hands the smell by smashing the cloves with the back of my knife, using a grater, and rubbing my hands on stainless steel. But everything I tried still left my hands covered in residue and the pungent smell of garlic. So when I first saw the Chef’n GarlicZoom Garlic Chopper on a Safiya & Tyler Livestream, I was hopeful that I’d found a solution to my garlic-chopping woes.

First, let’s talk about its simple design. This garlic chopper has only two pieces — the plastic chamber and wheelbase with blades — making for a compact kitchen gadget.
The plastic chamber opens completely to easily fill with garlic, while the wheel-blade combo base not only makes for safe blade removal but also for what makes this tool so special — it chops garlic in seconds as you roll it. The more you roll this chopper, the finer the mince of your garlic.

Before I put this garlic chopper into rotation in my kitchen routine, I had to put it through a few tests to see if it really lives up to its name.
After removing the packaging and giving it a thorough wash with soap and water, I began my testing. For my first test, I wanted to see how it handled a single clove of garlic. Unsurprisingly, it rolled smoothly and quickly chopped it without a problem. The clear plastic of the container allowed me to see the garlic as it was being chopped so I could know when to stop rolling. However, the garlic was a pain to remove since it was a small yield, which led to my next test.

For my second test, I wanted to find an effortless way to remove the garlic from the tool. I decided to add some olive oil to the blades and the plastic top, which definitely made a difference. Not only did the chopped garlic slide smoothly off the blades and out of the container with little help from a spatula, but the cleanup was so much easier without having to battle any sticky garlic residue.

Finally, I wanted to see how many cloves I could fit in the plastic chamber. Obviously, garlic cloves differ in size, so the number of cloves that fit will vary with every use. For this test, I found that five small garlic cloves or four large cloves are the maximum amount that would fit. With both amounts of garlic, I did have to use some elbow grease, but the chopper still worked just as efficiently and quickly as it did with the single clove.

Overall, this kitchen gadget is a must for not only garlic lovers, but anyone who prefers odor-free hands. It’s an affordable space-saving tool that actually does what it says and turns a typically monotonous task into a one — dare I say — I actually look forward to. Rolling this nifty little tool across my kitchen countertop makes chopping garlic an enjoyable experience. My boyfriend and I have a blast taking turns using it and before we know it we have perfectly minced garlic.
Do I use it for one clove of garlic? Not really, but when I need a ton of minced garlic stat (which is often), this little lifesaver is what I reach for. For just under $20, it totally takes the hassle out of chopping garlic and saves me time in the long run.
