Shake Shack is famous around the world for its delicious fast-food favorites. Whenever a new branch opens up somewhere, queues start forming as people hanker for its simple but well-made twist on comfort food.
This popular chain has humble beginnings, starting from a little hot dog cart in Manhattan’s Madison Square. Celebrity chef Danny Meyer opened it in 2001 to support the first art installation of Madison Square Park Conservancy’s first art installation. As soon as it opened, lines would form at lunchtime every day, motivating him to get a winning bid from the city to open a permanent kiosk in 2004.
It became so popular that it opened multiple locations in NYC by 2010. Currently, Shake Shack now has 377 around the world, and the first Philippine branch opened in Central Square in Bonifacio Global City in 2019. They’re planning to keep expanding this year globally, with 45 to 50 new locations in the works.
Despite its swift expansion and incredible popularity, Shake Shack remains committed to its mission to creating a sense of community with each branch, much as it has for its New York locations. Perhaps this explains the chain’s penchant for developing location-specific items like shakes inspired by local delicacies. It’s this desire to learn more about the countries they expand in that makes them so successful!

Veggie lovers will be pleased to sink their teeth into the ‘Shroom Burger, which has a crispy portobello patty filled with cheese as the star of the show. If you want a little extra protein to your usual hamburger, the SmokeShack has cherry peppers and applewood-smoked bacon to add heft and depth of flavor in every bite. Don’t forget to get their crinkle-cut fries on the side – we personally recommend getting the Cheese Fries for that luscious cheesy sauce.
It’s not a Shake Shack visit without the frozen custard and classic shakes. A rich Chocolate Shake is always a crowd-pleaser, but the Manila exclusive Ube Shake is a must-try that combines their vanilla frozen custard with sweet, creamy ube.
