Smell Great Naturally . . . Make Your Own Solid Perfume
For centuries, humans have been concocting potions designed to make them smell good. Researchers have discovered evidence of oil and plant-based perfumes dating back to Ancient Greece and beyond! Unfortunately, the art of making natural perfumes has been replaced in the modern age with artificial scents and chemicals. And as if that wasn’t enough, they can be SO expensive! A glance at a few price tags in the fragrance section at any department store is enough to make your head spin!
I recently read about making your own “solid perfume,” and knew it was the natural alternative I was looking for.
Instead of a spray, this perfume is solid, like lip balm, so it’s just as easy to apply. Simply swipe on your wrists and/or neck! It’s also easy to make…..totally customizable…..and you can make it for a fraction of the cost of traditional spray perfumes! It also contains natural, identifiable ingredients that you can feel good about putting on your body.

DIY Solid Perfume Base
- 1 tsp Vitamin E oil
- 100-120 drops of essential oils (*see below for ideas)
Combine the Almond oil, Grapeseed oil, and beeswax in a double boiler. Heat the mixture over medium heat until the beeswax has melted completely. Pour immediately into a jar or measuring cup, and let it cool for a minute or two.

Next, add the Vitamin E oil and your essential oil or oils of choice, and stir to combine with a wooden spoon or skewer.
Pour the mixture into your containers, which could be little cosmetic pots, lip balm tubes, small jars, or whatever you would like. Allow your solid perfume to cool and set up completely before using.
(This recipe makes quite a lot, so it would be perfect to use as gifts or party favors! If you’re just making some for yourself, feel free to cut the recipe in half or even fourths.)
Essential Oil Blends for Solid Perfume
You know what sorts of scents you like to wear, so that’s a good place to start when choosing your essential oils for your perfume. I love lavender and lemon, so this is the blend I used:
This blend smells so fresh and clean! But if you tend to gravitate more towards woodsy or musky scents, feel free to swap out any of these oils in exchange for something like Cedarwood, Sandalwood, or Silver Fir.
If you could benefit from an energy boost during the day, your perfume can work double duty as a scent that both smells great and perks you up! Citrus oils like Grapefruit, Lemon, and Sweet Orange are all energizing scents, and smell amazing when mixed with more earthy scents like Ylang Ylang or Sandalwood.
Whatever blend of oils you choose, you can rest assured that you’ll smell great and that you will be using safe, natural ingredients! So go ahead and carry your solid perfume around with you for scentsational touchups whenever the urge strikes. 🙂
