Perth to Jurien Bay road trip guide:
1. Depart from Perth
Start your leisurely drive from Perth in the morning and enjoy a nice slow drive along the beautiful coastline so the picture-perfect Indian Ocean scenery can keep you company throughout your drive.
As you go along, you’ll notice the landscape changing from tree-lined scenery to shrubs, dunes and places dotted with native trees.
2. Head to Guilderton
Only about an hour’s drive from Perth, Guilderton is well-known as the last estuary of the Moore River, where the stream meets the ocean tide. If you do decide to take a longer detour here or make a night of it, there’s certainly loads to do.
You can go for an afternoon barbecue and lunch picnic or hire a boat and perhaps even go fishing. You can also go on a river cruise or ride a kayak or canoe.
If you’re into sporty stuff, you can go sandboarding, surfing, off-road 4-wheel driving, swimming or hiking here.
To experience a bit of culture, you can visit the Guilderton Lighthouse, which is said to be the last brick-built lighthouse in Australia. The 32-metre-high lighthouse built in 1983 is made of specially tapered red clay bricks and has an automatic marine beacon.
If you’ve got kids with you, a visit to the Gravity Discovery Centre and Observatory should be an exciting science education encounter. The observatory is only 20-30 minutes east of Guilderton.
It’s also the place where you’ll find the Leaning Tower of Gingin. This 45-metre-high steel edifice leans at a 15-degree angle and is firmly held in place by 180 tons of concrete.
3. Stop by Lancelin
Home to the famous sand dunes that extreme sand boarders love to ride, Lancelin is about 90 minutes away from Perth.
A great option for a pit stop or an overnight stay, Lancelin is a perfect destination for adrenaline junkies who can go on different rides: buggies, quad bikes, Motocrosses, four-wheel drives and sandboard tours.
Lancelin’s proximity to the ocean means you’ll have picture-perfect coastal views. You can also go on a day trip, hiking, surfing, swimming, and exploring nature and wildlife.
4. Enjoy the Lancelin to Cervantes Ocean Drive
As you continue driving further north from Lancelin, you’re guaranteed breathtaking views of the coast and the Indian ocean. However, make sure you don’t get too distracted by the beautiful scenery while driving. Better yet, stop by and take photos if you need to, but don’t let your eyes off the road for far too long.
There are a couple of lookout places on the way to Jurien Bay.
These lookout points are ideal places to take a break from driving, enjoy a cuppa and stretch your legs. While you’re at it, you can take all the photos you want of the mesmerising natural scenery.
You can also drop by Ledge Point, which is a famous fishing and cray fishing town. There lots to do here like wind and kite surfing, strolling on the beach, golfing, fishing or four-wheel driving.
5. Visit the Pinnacles Desert at Nambung National Park
The next stop on your experience following the Perth to Jurien bay map is a visit to the Pinnacles Desert located inside the Nambung National Park.
These seemingly out-of-place unique limestone formations are a source of beauty and wonder as they look like sentinels keeping watch over the desert. Of course, to best enjoy the Pinnacles Desert, it’s best to go through Nambung National Park and proceed on the hardened dirt track that goes around the Pinnacles.
As you drive through the desert, you have the option to explore the area and take photos.
There’s so much to do at the massive Nambung National Park, too.
Known as one of Western Australia’s most famous natural attractions, the park also has fine white sand beaches, varied and vibrant plant life, and trails any adventurer would love.
6. Explore Cervantes
You’re very close to Jurien Bay once you get to Cervantes – less than 30 kilometres between the two places. While you’re in Cervantes, grab a bite at the Lobster Shack and enjoy some fresh lobsters, which this beautiful town is known for.
Here, you can explore the town’s rich nature, wildflowers, wildlife, go hiking or book an eco-tour.
