We updated this guide in October 2022 and added new picks from Day Wolf, Eddie Bauer, Sun Will, Aroma Season and Outdoor Research based on recent research and testing by the Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab. Day Wolf is now our best overall heated glove.
Once the temperatures drop, it’s time for our favorite winter activities. We’re talking skiing, ice fishing, sledding — and of course, many of us want to continue our daily outdoor activities, like running, motorcycling or simply walking our dogs. But, in order to truly enjoy these activities (and those not-so-fun ones, like shoveling), you need adequate best gear to keep you from freezing, including a good winter coat or down jacket, winter boots and maybe even a pair of fleece-lined leggings. And if your hands and fingers tend to get too cold in regular winter gloves, you’ll want to invest in the some heated gloves too.
The Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab evaluates all sorts of winter gear, from outdoor apparel and footwear to indoor options, including everything from electric blankets to flannel sheets and flannel pajamas. To find the best heated blankets, our team of scientists and engineers looked at offerings from top brands and considered everything from fabrication and construction, including targeted heating and heating method, to ease of use and heating intensity. The following picks are based on our analysts’ categorical expertise and feature both new releases as well as popular online options with rave reviews.

1) Heated Gloves
$119.90
If you’re looking for the perfect heated glove for this winter, check out this pair from Day Wolf. Our analysts love that this set has heating elements on the back of your hand and the fingertips — where your hands will get cold first — with a touchscreen compatible index finger and thumb. It’s got three different heat settings and comes with rechargeable batteries that the brand says last up to six hours. While it’s ideal for casual everyday wear, our experts think this set pairs perfectly as a liner for gloves meant for winter sports, to keep your fingers warm and toasty while skiing on the slopes. The gloves also come in four sizes, so you can guarantee a snug, stay-in-place fit for optimal use for any outdoor activity.
2) Electric Battery Heated Gloves
$26.99
These heated gloves from Autocastle have a durable water repellent exterior and warm lining to keep your hands protected, whether you’re using the heating function or not. The outer fabric is also touchscreen compatible, so you can use your smartphone while wearing them. Our analysts especially like that these gloves have a large heating area designed to reach the back of the hand and all five fingers. Plus, each glove requires three AA batteries (not included), so you can opt for rechargeable batteries if you choose or use whatever options you have on hand. Just note that the heating element for this pair is only on the back and the brand only offers one size, so the gloves might feel too bulky or constricting for users with smaller or larger hands.
3) Guide Pro Smart Heated Gloves
$299.00
If you want gloves that’ll automatically heat up the second you slide them on, this pair from Eddie Bauer is a game-changer; especially for those out skiing on the slopes who can’t stop to push a button or change any heat settings. Powered by AI heating tech, these regulate warmth throughout your entire hand — including the tips of your fingers, where you get cold first — and automatically adjust based on your body temperature and chosen activity, from everyday wear to winter sports like skiing and snowboarding. When we tested this pair, GH product analysts were impressed by just how easy they were to set up and use and noted that their entire hands felt evenly warmed. Our experts also appreciated that you can precisely change the targeted temperature. The brand also offers a Lite version at a lower price and a Mitten style, all with the same heating ability. Just note that this style isn’t touchscreen compatiable.
4) Heated Glove Liners
$108.88
For a thinner set of everyday gloves, this pair from Sun Will is a popular Amazon favorite, with over 1,500 reviews. They come with two rechargeable lithium batteries, which the brand says, when charged, can last from three to seven hours, depending on the heat setting. Reviewers say these gloves kept them warm on some brutal winter days and rave that they provide excellent warmth while being thin enough for much-needed dexterity. Our experts also appreciate the thoughtful construction of this pair, with a waterproof zipper for the battery pocket, touchscreen compatible finger tips and non-slip grips on the palms. Plus, the infrared fiber heating elements cover the back of hands, fingers and finger tips for ultimate warmth.
5) Rechargeable Battery Heated Gloves
$69.99
When shoveling snow, you’ll want super warm gloves that’ll stay dry. Although a bit bulky, this pair is popular for being super warm among reviewers. There are three color-coded heat levels to choose from that you can manage with a touch of a button. Unlike many other heated gloves, this pair also heats your palm. While it’s only offered in two sizes, our analysts like that the glove has an adjustable wrist loop, so they’ll feel secure on your hand. This pair also features a waterproof outer layer and an inner insulated layer, according to the brand, making it perfect for cold, wet winter days in the snow.
6) Prevail Heated GORE-TEX Gloves
$329.00
If heated gloves are an essential in your winter wardrobe, but you hate feeling the wires through the fabric, consider upgrading to this new release from Outdoor Research. It features a heating system with heating elements directly integrated into the interior lining, keeping bulky wires to a minimum with a more dexterous design. The gloves provide heating throughout the fingers and the back of the hand, with three different levels of warmth and a maximum run time of 8 hours on the lowest setting with a fully charged battery. They’re also lined with fleece, for added comfort and warmth in case you run out of battery. The brand has a strong reputation among serious hikers and skiers for its top-notch technical gear and has impressed our analysts with its down jackets and leggings.
5) Heated Gloves with Rechargeable Battery
$139.99
Ideal for cycling, hiking, skiing, and other outdoor sports, these touchscreen compatible gloves have a longer length to cover the wrists with an adjustable buckle to ensure a snug fit. With heat on the back of hands and fingers, these gloves are designed for snow sports. The brand claims you’ll feel the heat within 30 seconds of turning them on and says the heat will last up to 7 hours when fully charged, depending on the chosen heat setting. This style offers more sizes than most heated gloves on the market, with seven options from extra small to 3XL for any user. Plus, they’re a favorite of Amazon reviewers, having over 2,700 reviews with an average 4.4 star rating.
6) Heated Ski Mittens
$129.00
If you want to be as warm as possible, opt for mittens instead of gloves. Made of sheep leather and water-resistant polyester, these mittens heat up every part of your hand for up to six hours. For heating around each finger, the interior of these mittens is shaped similarly to a glove. Our experts appreciate that this style is offered in a wide size range, from XXS to 3XL, and has a velcro tie around the top of the wrist and a pull cord at the bottom for easy adjustments to ensure a proper fit. And if you prefer to keep any small valuables on you at all times, there’s a convenient, discreet zipper pocket on the inside of the wrist. Just note that some reviewers on Amazon experienced difficulties with Snow Deer’s customer service.
10) Heated Fleece Glove / Mittens
$20.82
If you want to avoid electrically heated gloves, this pair from Hot Hands is ideal. There’s a pocket on the top of the gloves where you can place an air-activated heating packet. This disposable packet will stay warm for around ten hours before needing replacement. If you’re a frequent user of hand warmers during winter, these are a great accessory to keep your hands free with each hand warmer secure during everyday activities. Our experts like that the gloves are lined with polyester fleece, which helps trap and circulate heat throughout the hand, and can be worn with or without the heating packets. Plus, when you purchase this pair of gloves, you’ll get a free set of heating packets.
7) Microwavable Therapy Mittens with Flaxseed–Moist Heat Therapy
$35.99
Many users who suffer from arthritis and Raynaud’s can find relief with heated gloves. This pick has over 1,500 Amazon reviews with an average of 4.5 stars. Reviewers rave that these gloves are a must-have for how easy to use they are and amazingly comfortable they feel, calling them “perfect for relaxing.” They’re filled with clay beads with lavender and flaxseed aroma therapy, to provide some calming notes, and can be heated by putting them in the microwave for one to two minutes prior to use. While we haven’t tested out these heated gloves, one GH analyst swears by the brand’s neck and shoulder wrap over electric heating pads for her muscle pain. The brand also offers a variety of products with the same technology, such as back wraps and booties.

The Good Housekeeping Textiles Lab has tested all types of gear for cold weather. To find the best heated gloves, our analysts began by researching offerings from well-known brands and other popular online options before considering fabrication, physical design and heating elements. For new releases without online reviews, our experts evaluated each in Lab using a thermal imaging camera to gauge heat distribution. In all, the material scientists and engineers in our Textiles Lab, spent over 50 hours researching and evaluating various heated gloves to find the best available.

✔️ Fit: Most importantly, you’ll want to make sure your heated gloves fit properly. We recommend measuring your hand and referencing the size chart if purchasing online. For ultimate comfort, make sure you can comfortably bend your hand into a fist and your entire wrist is covered to stay warm.
✔️ Material: To stay completely warm, you’ll want to make sure the gloves are wind and weather-proofed (especially if you plan on wearing them in the snow). Look for outer shells made with nylon or polyester blend with a soft fleece or wool interior liner. Heated gloves will vary in how thick they are with thinner styles better suited for working outside or skiing. Waterproof protection will help keep you hands protected from the elements, but note that they’ll feel less breathable and may leave your hands a bit clammy.
✔️ Battery life: Most battery operated heated gloves offer rechargeable lithium batteries instead of single use. Rechargeable batteries typically offer two to ten hours of heat. For longer heating times, you’ll need to buy an extra set to have a replacement with you.
✔️ Targeted heating: Many gloves place heating elements around the hand and wrist, but if you get cold easily, our experts recommend you look for a glove with heating around the fingertips, as your extremities will often get cold before the rest of your body.

There are two main types of heated gloves widely available, and each has different mechanisms for heating:
✔️ Chemically heated gloves: These gloves feature a pocket where you can place a disposable air-activated heating packet that’ll warm up once removed from its packaging. The heat lasts around eight hours before having to be replaced. These gloves have the option to be worn without the heating packets too.
✔️ Electric or battery-operated heated gloves: Instead of needing heating packet replacements, you’ll need to recharge or replace the batteries. The battery compartment is connected to a series of heated wires that are embedded throughout the gloves’ fabric. Most electric heated gloves have a variety of heat settings that’ll use different amounts of battery power. This type of heated gloves tends to be significantly more expensive.
