November is here
Whether you love spending the autumn indulging in delicious food at one of the buzziest restaurants around, taking in some culture at an art gallery either here in London or further afield in Milan, or you are in the mood for a little bit of new-season shopping, then look no further than our cultural guide to the month of October.
Below, we have curated the ultimate list of the best cultural happenings in London and beyond, which are taking place throughout the month.

1) Visit London’s best new pre-loved shopping destination
If you’re keen to make headway on your Christmas shopping, consider a stop-off at Re-Collection – a new boutique pledging to offer the best fashion, interiors and lifestyle objects you can possibly find in London right now. Founded by former Selfridges buyer and personal stylist Therese Bassler, the Notting Hill pop-up will offer curated pre-loved design, spanning furniture, fashion, art and smaller homewares. After becoming disenchanted with the eyewatering price tags given to many pre-loved items, Bassler wanted to create an inviting concept store that merges the idea of consignment shops with vintage and antique markets at relatively reasonable price points. A few small, carefully chosen independent brands will be available, but the focus will be on expertly edited second-hand treasures. Re-Collection also promises to provide a little respite amid the chaotic festive retail scene with the aim of inspiring customers through scent, sight and sound. We’ll see you at the checkout.
Re-Collection opens from 9 November – 18 December, 361 Portobello Road, W10 5SA

2) ‘Lumette’ Residency at 180 Corner
There’s no denying that chef Jackson Boxer is on a roll; at the helm of Brunswick House, Orasay, and the bar of the moment Under Stone Nest, he now brings us ‘Lumette’, a four-day culinary ode to the conviviality of live fire cooking and candle-lit dining to 180 the Strand. Sample delights as delicious as foie gras with Brixham crab and Madagascan pepper, caramelised milk bread with whipped burrata butter, and apple, hazelnut and brown butter ice cream. Not to be missed. Helena Lee

3) Chinese and British, at the British Library
Shining a light on the impact and legacy of Chinese communities that have played an active part in UK society for more than 300 years, the British Library hosts a new exhibition Chinese and British this month. Exhibits include a hand-drawn map of China by Shen Fuzong, the first recorded Chinese person to visit the UK in 1687, and the modernist writer Ling Shuhua’s 1953 autobiography Ancient Melodies, which had an introduction written by Vita Sackville-West, and was dedicated to Virginia Woolf. This an essential show, that will uplift the voices of a hugely underrepresented part of society. HL
‘Chinese and British’ is a free exhibition at the British Library book tickets here (runs 18 November 2022 – 23 April 2023)

4) Fashion a festive wreath
For horticultural novices and green-fingered experts alike, Petersham Nurseries’ Thomas Broom-Hughes will expertly guide you through making a yuletide wreath in the botanical institution’s signature wild and dramatic style. Taking place in both Petersham’s picturesque Richmond and Covent Garden locations in dates across the coming weeks, adorn a fully compostable willow base with locally foraged winter foliage, including colourful berries, sculptural seed heads and fragrant pinecones, and hang the finished piece proudly on your front door. Brooke Theis

5) Visit Eileen Cooper’s first major show
Eileen Cooper is an artists’ artist. While she has taught for more than 40 years, and was the first female keeper of the Royal Academy, her own practice has been constant – instantly recognisable, and shaped by the particularities of womanhood, motherhood. A long overdue show, put together by the presenter and curator Kathleen Soriano, pairs Cooper’s paintings – rich with storytelling of the dreamlike world she portrays, with artworks from the collection Leicester Museum & Art Gallery. It’s an elegant tribute that follows her 50-year career from talented young artist to the powerhouse she is today. HL
Parallel Lines: Eileen Cooper and Leicester’s Art Collection is on until 27 November. For more information, visit Leicester Museums

4) Stay in style at the Nobu hotel in Shoreditch
Although many of us have most likely spent the summer jetting off to different countries to make the most of unrestricted travel, we haven’t forgotten the joy of the staycation. Now, the Nobu hotel in Shoreditch has the perfect location for a weekend spent in the capital, as it opens its brand new sixth floor. The East London hotel features a stylish new penthouse (complete with its very own private outdoor terrace) for guests to relax in, before dining in the Nobu restaurant or indulging in its tranquil spa. Perfect for a restorative treatment after a day exploring the creative area of Shoreditch. Jessica Davis
