The Kia EV6 crossover is coming to Singapore in two variants
Singapore – We’ve been waiting for Kia’s EV6 for some time now. But we have it on good authority that the Korean brand’s electric crossover has been homologated and will be arriving in showrooms soon.
Details are scarce at the moment, but our sources indicate that there will be two variants of the EV6 headed for Singapore. Namely, the Standard Range Single Motor and the Long Range Dual Motor variant.
The 2WD Standard Range Single Motor (SRSM) EV6 will have a 168hp/350Nm motor mounted in the rear, powered by a 58kWh battery pack. Official figures put the SRSM’s 0-100km/h time at 8.5 seconds, and it’ll have a combined efficiency figure of 16.5kWh/100km. Officially, this SRSM variant will have a range of 528 kilometres under the WLTP test cycle.
The 4WD Long Range Dual Motor (LRDM) variant will have a 77.4kWh battery pack and has a combined output of 325 horsepower and 605Nm of torque from its two electric motors. It’ll take 5.2 seconds to hit 100km/h from a standstill and has a combined efficiency figure of 17.2kWh/100km. WLTP range is quoted at 506km.
Both cars are based on the E-GMP platform that is shared with its sister car, the Hyundai Ioniq 5, and both will have a maximum DC charge rate of 240kW thanks to its 800V architecture. Incidentally, the EV6 has the third fastest DC charge rate among electric cars sold in Singapore. Bested only by the Audi e-tron GT (and the Audi RS version), the Porsche Taycan and both the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y.
No word on official pricing yet, but given the volatility of COE prices, one should expect both variants to cost somewhere within the ballpark of S$250,000. But given the EV6’s efficiency figures, both variants will be eligible for a VES A1 rating (and a S$25,000 rebate), which when paired with the EV Early Adoption Incentive (EEAI) scheme should see the cost of the cars lowered considerably.
In overseas markets, there is a high-performance 4WD EV6 GT model that packs a 577 horsepower powertrain and does 0-100km/h in 3.5 seconds, but we’ve had no word on the GT’s availability in Singapore just yet. Fingers crossed then.
