The Sainsbury's Christmas Advert Is Here, And It's Giving Major Bridgerton Vibes

Spoons at the ready, because Sainsbury’s has released its Christmas advert and it’s made us crave a slab of Christmas pud.

The festive offering from Sainsbury’s is a “tongue-in-cheek fairy tale” starring none other than Brummy Queen herself Alison Hammond as the Countess. Giving us serious Bridgerton vibes, the advert follows the story of a nervous, young cook on a mission to make the Countess a dessert she’ll like.

After she shunned the Christmas pudding, the cook went about creating a dessert of festive dreams, seen making caramel and crumbling biscuits. At the banquet he removes the cloche to reveal… a Christmas pudding. But the Countess takes a bite, before exclaiming, “Mmm…that’s a bit of me!” The room fills with cheer and applause as the cook is praised with a “Well done Babs” and a pat on the back.

This is all done to the backdrop of a medieval instrumental version of Wheatus’ ‘Teenage Dirtbag’, obviously.

“Food plays a central role in any celebration, and we wanted to bring to life the imagination and innovation that goes into creating our Taste the Difference Christmas range,” says Laura Boothby, Head of Campaigns, at Sainsbury’s.

“We also wanted the ad to provide some fun and light-hearted Christmas cheer and who better to do that than Alison Hammond.”

Sainsbury’s isn’t the first supermarket to release its Christmas advert – Asda shared theirs this week, which centres around Buddy the Elf becoming a new employee at an Asda superstore.

Whilst Lidl introduces the world to a brand-new character, Lidl Bear in its adorable Christmas ad. Not forgetting of course, M&S who were first off the mark with their ad, reuniting comedy duo French & Saunders.

We still haven’t heard anything from John Lewis, but as usual, we’re expecting big things. Because, let’s be honest, it’s not Christmas until you’ve cried hysterically at JL’s advert.
