Top 5 Most Powerful Chevrolet Corvette Engines of the 2010s
The 2010s brought us Uber, Instagram, the Cronut, and the most powerful production Corvette the world has ever seen.
The Corvettes of the 2010s hit like a sledgehammer. The power output from the 1970s and 1980s seems absolutely laughable now. A BASE Corvette was inching closer to 500 horsepower. And the top performance models were putting out simply ridiculous levels of power. The higher spec Corvettes could now contend with the most exotic cars in the world. The Corvette graduated from an American sportscar to a world beating supercar. That combined with the fact that we now had Cronuts to enjoy made the 2010s a very special decade indeed.
The C7 Corvette was introduced about halfway through the decade, and while the base car can’t put down the dizzying performance of the Z06 or ZR1 models, a base C7 Stingray is one of the best performance bargains in the world right now. And if you are a traditionalist that believes a Corvette should have the engine in the front and drive the wheels in the back, with a manual transmission in between. Well, the C7 marks the end of the road for you. Let’s take a look back at some of the Corvette engines that made the last decade so incredible.
5. LT1 V8 2014 Stingray – 460 Horsepower
In 2014 the C7 Corvette was introduced. And the LT1 engine name was reintroduced. Albeit this time without a hyphen. With the dual mode performance exhaust this 6.2L V8 engine could make 460 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. Performance was impressive. The car could hit 60 mph in less than 4 seconds and top out at over 180 mph. Remember this is the base Corvette. The slowest Corvette you could buy was now putting down performance numbers reserved for exotics not too long ago.
