Shane van Gisbergen had a weekend to remember after completing a clean sweep of the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500, clinching a third Repco Supercars Championship and helping Red Bull Ampol Racing seal the teams’ title.

The Kiwi’s dominance at the double-header over October 29 and 30 also delivered his fifth race win in a row and extended his record for most victories in a season to 21.

“It’s been an awesome weekend, can’t thank the team enough,” says van Gisbergen, pictured. “To come home with a couple of gold surfboards is pretty awesome.”

He now has an unassailable 660-point lead over Cameron Waters in the drivers’ standings but is hoping for further success when the 2022 championship concludes in Adelaide at the beginning of December.

“Everyone wants to be the last Holden winner and the Ford guys probably want to spoil that, so I’ll be there prepared but also ready to party,” he notes.

Van Gisbergen’s latest victory came in a chaotic race when 10 cars were involved in a massive pile-up on lap four and the race was suspended for 20 minutes.

Chaz Mostert, who was 2.1 seconds behind, scored his second podium in as many days, with Will Davison third.

In the first Gold Coast race, van Gisbergen finished ahead of David Reynolds and Mostert respectively.
