Say you live in Florida and you’re planning a January trip to a Colorado mountain resort. You need to pack a winter parka, but you don’t own one. Or maybe you’re thinking about introducing the grandkids to camping, but your tent and sleeping bags are woefully out of date.

You could search local thrift shops for used gear, ask outdoorsy friends to borrow their stuff, or buy a new item you’re not sure you’ll ever use again.

Or you could check out Eddie Bauer’s new rental program that allows you to borrow their quality outdoor gear and technical apparel for just a few dollars a day.

Here’s What You Can Rent From Eddie Bauer

Items currently available for rent from Eddie Bauer, which has been a key player in the outdoor industry for more than a century, include both women’s and men’s rainwear, insulated parkas, hoodies, pants, shorts, shirts, flip flops, and several different kinds of hiking boots and low hikers.

Gear includes day packs, backpacks, duffels, camp chairs, tents, sleeping bags, and lanterns. There’s also a rolling duffel, down throw, flashlight, headlamp, sun shelter, and toolset available to rent.

Some items are bundled together in sets, like the Women’s “Tryout” Activewear Set that includes two tank tops and two different types of capri pants. A Sleep Under The Stars – Camping Set for Two includes a tent, two sleeping bags, two camp chairs, a backpack cooler, and a lantern.

New items will be added regularly to the rental pool.

How Shipping And Payment Work

Rentals from Eddie Bauer can be shipped anywhere in the contiguous United States — either to your home or to your vacation destination. You can also pick up your box at a FedEx or FedEx affiliate location.

You reserve the gear you want on the dates you need it, but you don’t pay for the rental until 10 days before it’s scheduled to be delivered. (If you reserve gear within 10 days of your trip, you’re charged immediately.) You can modify or cancel your reservation as needed until payment is made.

For a limited time, shipping to you is free; when the initial promotion is over, you’ll pay for FedEx shipping to receive your gear. Return shipping is always free; a pre-paid return label is included in your box of goods.

Clothing and gear are professionally cleaned between users, and the company says it will be delivered in “near-new” condition.
