How do I activate my Consecutive Swiss Travel Pass?

When you purchase your Swiss Travel Pass from Klook, we will send an email directly to your account. You will receive a PDF file that contains a code that the train staff can check and scan. You may also receive a link in the email that will allow you to add the code to any wallet app on your smartphone. If you have purchased a consecutive ticket, then you will have to fill in your start date during purchase, and the pass will be automatically activated on that date.

Alternatively, you may print out the PDF on a sheet of paper.

The pass is ready to be used if it contains information such as your start date, passenger name, and birth date.

After receiving the QR code, you may reserve seats on Swiss trains by booking through Klook. You can also follow the guide below to reserve scenic train trips on their official website. Do note that you can reserve seats for up to 3 months in advance.

How do I activate my Flexible Swiss Travel Pass?

If you have purchased a flexible pass, then the activation process is slightly different. Follow the steps below to successfully activate your pass!

What is the validity of the Swiss Travel Pass?

Once your Swiss Travel Pass has been activated, you will be able to use it for how many days you have purchased the pass for. It does not matter what time you activate your pass, as the start date is 00:00. For example, if you activated your pass on August 31st 2022 at 19:00, your start date will be August 31st.

The validity of your pass ends at 5:00 AM the next day, so you can still take overnight trains. For example, if you purchased a 8-day Swiss Travel Pass and activated it on September 1st, the valid dates would be September 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. If you take an overnight train on the 8th, the ticket would still be valid until 5:00 AM of September 9th.

What is the difference between the consecutive Swiss Travel Pass and Flexible Swiss Travel Pass?

If you are getting the consecutive pass, it would mean even if you haven’t traveled on a particular date with the pass during the activated period of the trip, it is still considered a travel day. Meanwhile, a flexible ticket would allow you to select the dates that you are traveling and only these dates are considered as travel days.

How to use the Swiss Travel Pass?

The Swiss Travel Pass mainly covers 2 types of tickets:

Trips that allow free traveling. This includes most buses, trains, boats, etc. For these routes, a separate reservation is not required. Just show your digital pass / QR code to the staff and you should be able to board the bus, trains, and boats. The SBB train rides here include but are not limited to regional trains, high-speed trains, and sleeper trains. They can take you from Zurich to Lucerne, Interlaken to Zermatt, Geneva to Bern, and many more popular train routes are covered as well.

Trips that allow for discounted traveling. This is usually applied for mountainous routes and scenic train routes. You will then have to make a separate online reservation to purchase a discounted ticket by using the Swiss Travel Pass. If you are going to the ticket counter physically, do make sure to present your Swiss Travel Pass to get a discount on your ticket as well.

There are also a few cable cars that are included as part of the pass, but you will have to purchase another ticket at the ticket booth. Upon arrival, just show your Swiss Travel Pass and you will obtain a cable car ticket for free.

Do I need to reserve seats for train trips?

It depends on the train rides. But mostly for regional trains, high-speed trains, and sleep trains, no, you will not have to reserve seats for almost all rides. However, for certain scenic routes such as Bernina Express, Glacier Express, Golden Pass, and Gotthard Panorama Express, you will need to make a separate reservation by paying a small booking fee.
